Re: WORLD CUP!!!

Ben Purton wrote:My odds for what?

For a bet with me. If I agree to your requested odds, I will take your bet of £150 on England to win the WC.

In fact, I offer you 9/1. How's that?

Re: WORLD CUP!!!

Anyone that understands betting will know that 7/1 is a terrible price for England winning the WC, never mind 11/2!!!!!!

Get an account on Betfair and LAY England at these odds. I did this for many tournaments over the years.

They simply will not win and deep down you all know it.

Re: British Championship...2011

Yes, I take the points and I'm sorry for any perceived negativity. Of course I am grateful that the Championships are run at all.

I'm just voicing a personal feeling about the choice of an inland city for a two week Championship in the Summer. I'll still be there supporting it.

Re: British Championship...2011

Absolutely devastated that Sheffield has been chosen. A grotty city is not somewhere I want to spend two weeks of my Summer - we always want to combine our British Championship with our Summer British holiday. I pointed this out in the questionnaire at Torquay last year but I guess it fell on deaf e...

Re: Rhyl Chess Congress 2010

Turnout was ok.

About 50 in the Open, 60 in the Major and about 25 in the Minor.

Mostly Northern players but a handful did venture from the South.

Chester is the next one arounbd here and that is always a good one. Cracking venue and superb catering.

Re: Junior Chess Magazines?

I write very basic booklets for my kids in my school chess club. I'm not published but we sell them to raise money for chess club funds with the aim of helping to pay for next year's 4NCL Junior campaign. There not on a par with Tim Onion's stuff etc but they do provide a reference point for my kids...

Rhyl Chess Congress 2010

Thought I would use my first post here to congratulate Stuart, Haydn and Sue on a tremendous Congress this weekend. Fantastic friendly atmosphere and a super venue. Well run as usual by Peter Purland and team. Topped off by my step-daughter, Imogen winning the 'Best Junior' prize in her most success...
