Re: 'Private Eye' ad

This is definitely not a scam - this is Joshua Altman. He is indeed a very talented kid and I have watched him play. He is going to Romania for the World Schools' Chess Championships .

Re: JUNIOR FOUR NATIONS CHESS LEAGUE (J4NCL): END OF TERM RE

In addition to those Neill, I attended two more junior tournaments - the National Girls' Chess Championships Midlands Qualifier on the Saturday and the Zone 20 EPSCA qualifier at Aldro School. At both events the children all had such a great time and really learnt a lot. Great to see so many events ...

Re: Qualified Coaches

Usually, they are reprimanded for it in some way or other. Good managers will always be looking at performances, punctuality, efficiency, personality on a job and reviewing them. If they become sub-par, then there will be consequences. However, yes, there are bad managers and therefore bad staff. I ...

Re: BEWARE – Chess Coaching Scams

Thanks Tom. Yes, I can see the potential conflict of interest. I just wanted to know why there was in my case and not in his, that's all. I believe everyone should be treated fairly. Simon, thank you for your comments. I have approached the ECF personally about the issue with their accreditation sys...

Re: BEWARE – Chess Coaching Scams

Which bit do you agree with Simon? I was asking about the fact that the official ECF coaching site was just a picture of him and a link to his academy's website. You mention again about my personal conflict of interest - but which is this? All I have ever said is that I want the best for the juniors...

Re: BEWARE – Chess Coaching Scams

I never get any answers when I raise questions of something that doesn't sound quite right! These things just continue. However, if I was to do the same....Oh boy!

Re: Qualified Coaches

This is the minimal stuff that should have been included in the first place. I have been saying this for 5 years. At least it's a step in the right direction and Dave has time to listen to all our inputs and suggestions to help produce a good system where we can trust our coaches. Krishna is right t...

Re: Junior title holder

The BWCA is still a British title and a good one at that. The BWCA was a great organisation that helped encourage and inspire many girls and women in chess. I do hope it can make a comeback. These BWCA titles were more popular than the British Girls' titles at the time because they didn't require yo...

Re: BEWARE – Chess Coaching Scams

I think Michele means Andrew Martin's own website - managed by John Upham? I think it is more likely that she means this one: http://www.ecfcoaching.org.uk/ Is that not owned and controlled by the ECF then? I'm interested to know the answer to this question, because if you go back to the debate (if...

Re: BEWARE – Chess Coaching Scams

It doesn't matter how strong Dave Levens is as a chess player. He clearly is good enough to know all the correct rules and has had a long history of successful coaching. He is very experienced and done a lot of good work in Nottingham. Any quick google search would probably show this. I have read ev...

Re: BEWARE – Chess Coaching Scams

Hi Sabrina, I am not at all interested in who is or is not a good coach or well meaning teachers who think Knights cannot jump. The report suggests that there are strangers masquerading as chess coaches with no background clearance approaching parents, taking their money and having access to their ...

Re: BEWARE – Chess Coaching Scams

I won't quote the comments because there were so many, but firstly Thomas: There is no conflict of interest as my only interest is that of the children. As was correctly mentioned, it is quite easy to know who are strong players, who have coaching experience etc, but only for someone who is heavily ...
