Re: World Teams 2019

India still have to play Russia, albeit in the last round when Russia may already be champions. I think England would guarantee a medal if they beat Sweden, regardless of the result against China tomorrow?

Plausible winning plans would be a sacrifice or a Zugswang. There doesn't seem any prospect of either.
And yet

Re: World Teams 2019

Sasikiran concedes the draw, and hence so do India.

Re: World Teams 2019

The computers reckon Guseinov is now equal with Sasikiran, who needs to win if India are to win the match, but there's plenty of play left and not so much time...

Re: World Teams 2019

Elsewhere China and Russia are both set to win by the minimum and India are also favourites albeit with a way still to go.

Re: World Teams 2019

David has won, but Mickey looks completely lost and Luke is swapping off into a presumable draw. So it may be down to Gawain to win an ending in which his advantages do include the clock.

Re: World Teams 2019

Artemiev v Izoria looks likely to decide the Russia v USA match in favour of the former.

Meanwhile Goryachkina currently has a level position as Black against Ushenina.

Surely there are at least two indexes to theses, British and others, where you can search for "chess" though you may have to go to the British Library or a university library to do it?
I should think there must be, since I'm sure I remember using one when doing my own research eighteen years ago.

Re: Academic theses on the subject of chess

That sounds like what I was looking for, any idea of the details, e.g. title, institition etc?

Re: World Teams 2019

It had previously eluded me that Naiditsch has a crushing record against Karjakin, now up to 6-2.

Sweden also seem to have been without their normal board four today, only they put in another guy with the same name.

Re: World Teams 2019

It might be relevant that it's the penultimate round, and China are likely to need to win if they're going to have any chance of getting anything. Or it might not, because they'd want to win that match on rating strength anyway.

Re: World Teams 2019

And that's a wrap.

Russia 10
India, England 9
USA 8
China 6

Egypt 2 China 2 the result of the round. They might easily have won it, too.
