Re: World Cup Knockout 2019

Looking at McShane - Yuffa, I wonder how many theoretical variations see Black knights developed directly to e7 and d7. The Hippo, presumably, and there's a line against the Reti/KIA which I seem to recall being recommended in the recent Chess Stars book, but is there much more significant than that?

Hard to know what the case is, though, since he doesn't actually say what he was told.

Oh good spot. Move 60 for the curious.

Luke's game also a curiosity.

Re: World Cup Knockout 2019

Mmm, as it acquired that name almost immediately on its acquisition by the USSR it's not really what I'm thinking of.

Re: World Cup Knockout 2019

Nepo held with White by Predke. I was intrigued on looking up the latter to see he was from Dimitrovgrad - how many Russian cities named after Communist leaders in the Soviet period have retained those names in the modern era? (Tolyatti is another one, I note.)

Re: World Cup Knockout 2019

Isn't that gag a variation on the old joke about an intellectual being somebody who can hear the William Tell Overture and not think of The Lone Ranger?

I'm happy to express my gratitude in advance, particular as I suspect most forum posters couldn't care less.
You don't have the slightest idea what "most forum posters" think.

Re: Media comments on chess

Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood: Brad Pitt goes back to his caravan and on the TV there's a trailer for the film Three In The Attic, with a chess scene showing.

(Later, Leonardi Di Caprio is in his trailer and you can see a chessboard in a pocket on the wall.)

When you have finished in the analysis room

...put the pieces in the box or back in the starting position, how difficult can that be eh?
