FIDE ID

Being in the middle of copying up six years' worth of old chess games, I had cause to look myself up on Chess Results using my FIDE ID, which is 412228, and was surprised to find that one entry had nothing to do with me at all, but was attached to a nine or ten year old Brazilian girl (who I can't f...

Re: Worrying times

Justin,Where I'm coming from is that I looked at a lot about criticism of the foot & mouth modelling and was totally convinced by it. For me, that job doesn't need doing again. But if course that's not so for other people. The fact that it's the same bloke this time My problem with this way of look...

A good article by Ray Keene. I was unfamiliar with two of the anecdotes. It is now 2am.

Re: Worrying times

Well, we know rather less than that, in so far as we don't know what other advice they had, or what other outcomes were considered likely or available, and I do not think we have any good reason to rely on the Telegraph's digest or interpretation.

Re: Worrying times

And I wonder how helpful any of that is without seeing the work concerned so we know what terms like "predicted" and "could" actually mean. Or indeed what the Telegraph may be seeking to achieve here.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the papers

Re: Worrying times

Back very much on topic, Prof Neil Ferguson. I knew I remembered that name, and just as I was connecting it to the foot and mouth scandal, this appeared. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/03/28/neil-ferguson-scientist-convinced-boris-johnson-uk-coronavirus-lockdown-criticised/ Well, some of it ...

Re: Worrying times

Meanwhile Wuhan begins to lift its lockdown, "after more than two months of isolation", which may (with all kinds of riders and qualifications) give some indication as to how long it will last elsewhere.

Hilton is a grifter, mind. (Obviously I generally share the sentiments about austerity, I'd just like to hear them from a less cynical voice.)

Ah, not quite, but I can see now that I shouldn't have included Paul's comment in the quote part of the posting.

Re: Stopping of the Candidates Tournament

Calls for resignations have been made elsewhere..... So I wanted to ascertain the opinions of members of this Forum Why would the first of these things have anything to do with the second? This looks entirely reasonable to me. Had David not backed up his opening statement with an example, you might...

Re: Stopping of the Candidates Tournament

I was a bit surprised by the question. Asking FIDE to acknowledge this has gone wrong and to try to do better seems appropriate. But it doesn't seem like an individual error or the result of anyone acting in bad faith. Calls for resignations have been made elsewhere, for instance by Justin Horton a...
