Re: World Championship

I thought he had an edge in the second game, but went astray and had to fight for a draw. Then he got marmalised in game three with the White pieces and to all intents and purposes, that was that.

Re: ECF: One member, One Vote

I'm not entirely sure how chess is fundsed where I am (rural Spain) but I believe it's partly through local authorities who are obliged to support sport and culture, and partly through business who do them same (whether philanthropically or through legal obligation, I don't know). As a result, there...

Re: Kramnik 10/1 to win game 7 with White (or even with Black!)

Anyway, will anybody confess to having taken the bet?

Google '"well-lunched" chess' to see what I mean.

If one doesn't want the Panglossian lipstick removed, don't read what David writes. It's quite simple.
I'm struggling to discern the meaning of this post, I must confess...

Re: Resources for returning players

I just checked my pulse and I still seem to be alive. Whenever I try this, I can never find it. Should I worry? Actually, I don't know if you've read Will Self's The Quantity Theory Of Insanity , in which he claims that people don't die, they just move to a different part of London.... (Thanks for ...

I was rather hoping for a change of Mother with that particular pot.

Re: World Youth Championships

I'm always pleased when Jessica Thilaganathan or Callum Kilpatrick do well as I have my wins against them safely in the bank, to be rolled out later when they are in possession of titles and awards....

Re: Laws of Chess - changes

(Had he won the pawn, of course, then given that he would quite rightly have refused any further draw offers, but would not have known how to try and win it, we'd quite likely have been there until ten.)

That said, 10/1 still not a bad bet.

Re: Laws of Chess - changes

There would be no danger of anybody missing his train. Not sure about that. I played a game on Saturday, began at 4.30. Ninety minutes per player with a thrity-second increment. I finished round about 8. The last few games were still going on and all but one finished soon. The last one, however, in...

Re: Kramnik 10/1 to win game 7 with White

Those do sound like good odds. Unfortunately as my personal financial situation consists of €40 in a Spanish bank account and a rather larger deficit in my sterling position, I am in the position of recommending a bet which I'm not actually prepared to make. I reckon that would be worth twenty qui...

Re: No news is bad news

The initial formal press release by the ECF was premature This may be a reasonable point: I can understand why people who seem to have negotiated something good might want to tell the world about it, but you do stand to look silly if what you've said is going to happen, doesn't subsequently happen....
