Re: Sealed move question

What about the player who did seal not being present? (See discussion.)

Sealed move question

Does (or did) a sealed move count as a part of the gamescore even if play did not resume? Can we therefore consider such a move to have been "played"?

Re: No news is bad news

My strong preference would be for Andrew not to resign, though of course it's entirely his decision. Whatever parallels are being drawn from other situations, I don't see the advantage in this particular one.

Re: Rudderless ships

Cannot agree with that Justin. Directors resigning last year and now a director explaining why he has a problem are clear indications that the ECF's problems directly relate to a small number of individuals. Yes, Ernie, but "the ECF's problems" do not equate to "the problems of English chess", whic...

Re: At Last, the 1979 Grading List...

Stuart Rachels, who was later (I believe ) a surprise US Champion, played some games for Oxfordshire. Jesse Kraai, who only recently got his GM title, probably did the same and certainly played for Cowley.

Re: Rudderless ships

English Chess is being ruined by a few persons Ah, I don't think this is true. This is largely because I think the problems of English chess have causes rather deeper than anything either caused by the ECF (or anybody in it) or within its powers to substantially change. (This doesn't mean they coul...

Re: No news is bad news

Well, I guess the point is that it's always good for boards to present a united front to the outside world. In business, directors who have a fundamental disagreement with the rest of the board (and this is I think a fundamental disagreement) do tend to put their bats under their arms and walk off ...

Oh maybe even this...although as I write, it's not working.....

Good luck to Mark (if it's not taken place already - is it recorded or live?). Hope his performance is better than mine on Fifteen-to-One years ago. I got both my questions wrong and had to sit down.

Might have been the first grading list I was on, that, though some long way below 175 of course.

Re: No news is bad news

I don't think I follow the argument there. Or at least I follow the last part all right, but I don't see what positive purpose would be served by Andrew resigning.
