Re: Trying to renew membership
I sympathise with Steve. When you first reach the site, you have to click on one of the renewal options, so I chose '3 year silver'. When you get to the members details page, the viewing form shows the one year option instead, which cannot be changed. It's only when you get to the payment page that ...

Re: League Management Software
The Croydon League results screen is what I was looking for - thanks. I very much like the 'player' feature.
I guess it would be quite a task for a national LMS to incorporate all the features everyone wanted but the idea is an interesting one.

Re: League Management Software
As a team captain, and a former league secretary who manually compiled the fixtures 9 times for the Nottinghamshire league (which by the way does not have any divisional grading limits and has no restrictions on board order apart from eligibility rules (apart from one occasion, you must play on the ...

Re: July 2014 gradings out
"At present category A grades are calculated by averaging the grading points from the most recent 30 games. Starting in January the averaging will be over all games in the previous two grading periods. This change will mean that category X will become redundant." Category 'X' is based on all games (...

Re: 2014 Final stages
Thanks lads. The minor counties result took about 30 seconds to load (and not all the players' grades are shown for some reason, i.e. Merry's (223) and Tan's (227)) which is strange considering the earlier rounds come up almost immediately. Suffolk thoroughly deserved their win yesterday. Even had w...

Re: Chess and Road Cycling
Cyclists should be treated with respect but only when they use the road correctly, as I used to do when in my 20s and 30s. I even had these strange little things called lights! Why do so many cyclists think they have right of way on pavements? Isn't it illegal? They are a danger to pedestrians, espe...

Re: Semi Finals 2014
Yes, nevertheless I wanted to highlight what a gentleman Mark is, especially in light of Alex having recently defeated Mark in the final round of the Nottingham Congress; Mark must had felt frustrated after having had the superior position, but he didn't show it at all. I most sincerely apologise fo...

Re: Semi Finals 2014
Hi Mick, That was our best win against them this season (the other two being 9 - 7 and 8.5 - 7.5) not because the average of their July '13 grades was exactly 180, nor even because they included a grandmaster (all credit to Mark Hebden for immediately accepting the offered draw when Alex P had just ...

Re: Papers for ECF Council meeting 12th April 2014
Down at the end it says Improve membership processes and phase out game fees So what does this mean? Is it that non-members can play in graded competitions, or is it that they should be banned. It means that the ECF board (or is it just the CEO?) continues to attack players who have no need to beco...

Re: Digital Clocks - issues arising from introduction
I recorded 49 moves until I had about 1 1/2 minutes left. A few moves later my opponent made an illegal move when in check. I should have noted that the playing session was scheduled to end at 10pm and it was only 9:25 (therefore the extra 15 minutes cannot have been added on) but was totally absorb...
