What would make the arbiter suspicious?
If the player was adjusting her shoe a lot. If when she took her shoe off it stayed connected to her leg by a wire. If she was wearing a hearing aid or other earpiece.

Re: Greatest Chess World Record......

Cheparinov-Stefanova, Corus Wijk aan Zee B 2005.

Black's pawn arrives on d2 on move 31 and stays there for 123 moves.

The game was notable for other reasons.

Re: Greatest Chess World Record......

If we consider the specific case of a Black pawn on e2: https://www.365chess.com/game.php?gid=2879834 Move 25, Black pawn appears on e2. 43 moves later, Black resigns. So you're not a terribly long way off being halfway to the record. Or what used to be the record anyway, since I only searched up to...

Define "worse" though. Worse according to an engine, or more likely to result in losing the game?
These are not separate circles on a Venn diagram
Correct. They are intersecting circles. Which circle did you mean?

Re: Dutch defence

Possibly because experience and common sense suggest that most players will produce worse moves once they are thrown on their own resources than when they are copying the previous moves of grandmasters. Define "worse" though. Worse according to an engine, or more likely to result in losing the game...

Re: Dutch defence

Playing black and facing 1 d4, I am thinking about replying with 1 ... f5 as I suspect that this would surprise most opponents and they may not know how to proceed. However, I am wary of doing this, as there must be a reason why this reply is so little used by much higher graded players. Is there a...

Re: law question

Mind, examining the soles of an Iranian's shoes is the equivalent of examining a Brit's underwear, am I right?

Re: Tactical opportunities

It looks like a combination of c4, e4 and Bh4 should pick-up an exchange? Does exchanging rooks not allow White to wriggle out? If Rxd8 Qxd8, Rd1 vacates the diagonal with tempo. If Rxd8 Rxd8 Nd2, Black can't go ...e4 any more. EDIT - ...Bxd8! Fiendish. Disregard previous Further edit - Black doesn...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

Indeed one perfectly reason response to Agon is that according to them, there's more than half a billion potential viewers which is many many times more than enough to go around, so what have they got to complain about? If by "perfectly reason" you mean perfectly snide and facetious. Modified quest...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

Question: if you'd been watching the chess24 coverage exclusively, would you have known that PhosAgro had anything to do with the event? I use the plain pgn, stockfish and play through of chessbomb, so others would have to answer. If Agon made a video feed available to chess24, that could contain s...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

As to why they would do this, it's to promote the event to a wider world rather than be obsessed by trying to maintain a monopoly of coverage. It's usually regarded as being in a sponsor's interest to have the event promoted as widely as possible. For certain values of "promoted". It's usually not ...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

"Working with established sites" is more ethically dubious than just declaring your own online coverage exclusive. That might be your view, but not mine and not I think widely shared. Really? If by "work with" you mean put official coverage of the match on sites other than the site Agon are running...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

They can drop their assertion that a text record of the moves played belongs exclusively to them and work with established on-line sites rather than against them. Not having dubious gimmicks and thorough load testing before the start of the match would help. It's been a recurring problem that whils...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

Well, unless and until Agon choose to test that thesis by changing their policy - which they have had ample opportunity to do - I strongly agree with Paolo that this discussion has run its course. Okay. You find the part in Agon's policy document where it says "just be rubbish for no reason" and cr...

Re: Consultation on the Draft FIDE Live Moves Broadcasting Policy

So all I can conclude is: Chess players like free stuff Chess players hate Agon regardless of what they do My conclusions are: Agon are rubbish. This view is shared by just about everyone who has been exposed to their work. I would be happy to commend them on anything they had done well, but nothin...
