Re: County Championship Consultation

People make the mistake of comparing the 4NCL with the counties championships. These are two quite different events, catering for differing needs, and with quite different frameworks. The fact that 4NCL has had good success over several years is a good thing and shows that a certain demand is being ...

Re: County Championship Consultation

It might just be that the problems that many have described are in fact the challenges of the competition.. ie., transport, getting players, finding suitable venues, etc.. As regards getting players, I think it helps for team captains to make an early start, say, at least 4 weeks before the match da...

Re: County Championship Consultation

For those who have valid comments to improve the county events, there is space to record these. Maybe pass on comments to your ECF Rep...Bronze, Silver, Gold. There are some very good features of these competitions that deserve to be flagged up. All these events require a certain amount of hard work...

Re: Crewe Congress ..

I was rather thinking this might attract more players from the Staffs, Shropshire, Merseyside and Manchester/Stockport league regions.
I know it already has an extended interest beyond these boundaries.

Re: County Championship Finals

Shame if true..
Both counties are capable of putting out good teams.
Maybe celebration matches like the one v Liverpool recently will be the norm for our top players.
Certainly I see merit in the OPEN team playing at least one competitive match prior to the National stages.

Re: County Championship Finals

The chess calendar is quite full most of the time, so you`re going to have to get stuck in regardless.
I see your match with Liverpool went well. Have you any results and score details you can post here..

Re: County Championship Finals

It might be worth contacting Ray Dolan to see if he could sort something. It would certainly be good if Alan Walton had some kind of challenge match prior to seeking the nomination for the vacant OPEN team place in the National stages in December. I can see no good reason to leave the OPEN place unf...

Re: County Championship Finals

John, This thing you`ve got about only wanting to play Yorks and Lancs at Bradford or Heywood seems a little narrow to me. Travelling to Newcastle-u-lyne or Holmes Chapel is just as straight forward, I think... and they offer good venues in both sites. As a point.. I`ve asked Peter Sherlock about GM...

Re: The White Horse club of manchester (then known as Withington Peoples club)

I think the People`s club just lost members and disbanded. Some of the players joined other local clubs like Chorlton and Stockport. There is no doubt room for another chess club in Withington area if a volunteer can be found to run it. There used to be a very good club which met at Manchester Bridg...

Re: County Championship Finals

Alan, I`m not sure what problems you had with my post, but I`ll try to deal with any specific points you raise.. Firstly.. lets realise that the County Qualifying competitions are catering for a wide range of teams of every strength group, its not just about the Open competition. I`d urge many count...
