Re: County Championship Finals

Alan, I`m not sure what problems you had with my post, but I`ll try to deal with any specific points you raise.. Firstly.. lets realise that the County Qualifying competitions are catering for a wide range of teams of every strength group, its not just about the Open competition. I`d urge many count...

Re: County Championship Finals

Maybe the NCCU constitution needs to be amended to recognise why the GM County came into being.. Namely to facilitate the playing of county chess at all levels by more players and teams. At the time there was ample scope to accommodate an additional set of teams in county competitions in the North.....

Re: Motions

Firstly, can I just say that, as a former county captain, having played county chess for several counties going back a few years, this format of chess is an excellent part of our chess calendar. Our first job is to recognise the place this has and the many aspirations it satisfies. We play to win, a...

Re: Counties Championship 2016-17 - graded sections

Saturdays U160 County match was a typical keenly fought battle, played at the Newcastle-U-Lyme Bridge club... a very pleasant neutral venue.
The best team on the day won.. so well done to Warks and good luck in your future matches.

Re: ECF October 2016 – Minutes of AGM

It looks like a lot of squabbling going on here about ECF actions.. minutes, etc. As regards the Minutes of the recent ECF AGM... I`d rather wait and see these published in good order than have them rushed out to pander to a few bickering buffoons. Remember, the ECF is manned largely by unpaid amate...

Re: Div 3 North 2016-17

The pairing system has been announced for Division Three North - from Round Five (ie Week 3) it's a Seeded Swiss. Re: Div 3 North 2016-17

I take your points Martin... but my suggested 3 groups /6 teams option is actually fairly straight forward if you stick to the basic method. Yes, as you say, other options are available, but any Swiss option needs to be seeded/structured, as part of the wider package... with various permutations of ...

Re: County Chess vs 4NCL

Doing away with the Unions would definitely not be a good plan.. The problem with Alex suggestion is that different areas might wish to enter different graded teams.. ie, say you took Cheshire Merseyside and Lancs + Shrops as one group.. Shrops might enter a Minor Counties and U 120 team, whereas Me...

Re: Div 3 North 2016-17

Hi Loz... No, I meant 3 groups of 6 teams, as initially suggested by Neil Graham, would be my preference.. This would mean that each of the three groups play out an initial 5-round all-play-all. This would be followed by a more formalized seeding of the top 6 teams (probably 2 from each group). Then...

Re: Div 3 North 2016-17

And certainly its not good to have such teams targeting opponents in future rounds with pre-arranged team orders, designed to `take -out` the big gun opposition. That's been part of the cultural and sporting tradition of the 4NCL almost since it was founded. That's why fixtures are established well...

Re: Div 3 North 2016-17

This split into two groups of 9 teams runs the risk of being branded too much as an `arranged deal`... with 8 pre-arranged rounds. ie, fixing the pairings too rigidly in advance smacks of potential control freakery and fixture manipulation.. Too much `pre -planning` is not really what the league nee...
