Re: EU referendum aftermath

People have been completely hoodwinked by the `out ` campaign... and the media circus. Phases like `take back control` and `control immigration, and `make our own laws.. not be ruled by unelected Brussels beurocrats, etc sound great.. but this leap into the dark, based on a wafer thin majority vote,...

Re: 2016 draw

May I respectfully suggest that the (mostly) three-way conversation about the situation in Manchester be carried out on a separate thread? It has nothing to do with the 2016 draw/results. In respect of Manchester competing in any Union competition whether NCCU or MCCU - this will not happen until y...

Re: 2016 draw

Alan, I repeat... You have clearly missed the point of my original post... and not for the first time. You say that I got it wrong regarding the 2000`s. You couldnt even get it right on one match... and a match that you captained. You said that we were weak on bottom boards, and I had lost.... on bo...

Re: 2016 draw

Alan, Again, you really do talk some ******* You have clearly missed the point of my post... AGAIN. And you cant even report accurately on the one county Open team match you quoted from .. You said that I`d played bottom board in that match, which is clearly not true... and said we had a weak bottom...

Re: 2016 draw

"But if players are not prepared to travel beyond the Cheshire borders, we will end up defaulting in the National Finals stages, when we would be faced with longer trips to Birmingham, Leicester, or perhaps Worcester." where I understand they still paint themselves blue. The match referred to here ...

Re: 2016 draw

Not a problem Mike.. and yes, I have read the messages you refer to. And, putting aside the misstatements, selective half truths and other spurious comment put out by the usual suspects recently.. Unfortunately, I suspect my concerns are being concealed from the MCF membership, by certain parties wh...

Re: 2016 draw

Lets all calm down here; everybody involved with chess in the UK are volunteers, so we don't need I volunteer more than others comments The arguement here is that Mick is voted in as the voice of Manchester Chess by the AGM, all his comments and views are voted by the clubs of Manchester, therefore...

Re: 2016 draw

And Mick.. you mentioned Stockport chess club. They do a very considerable amount of good work for local chess, in both Manchester & Stockport. Maybe they just don`t want to listen to your `red herrings`, discredit stories, dubious utterances, brow beating....and brain washing sessions ?? This may ...

Re: 2016 draw

My club AGM takes place next week. The MCF AGM takes place on 9th July in Manchester, I believe. Hot off the press... Manchester urgently needs a new Web Master.. And the MCCU AGM takes place on Sunday June 26th, I believe, near Derby. I will look forward to David's reports of these meetings! David...

Re: 2016 draw

Sean, who hails from Leicestershire, but currently plays his chess in Manchester, I believe, suggests disbanding GMan...?? Mick has said they need a County Open team captain. Someone like Sean could make an excellent choice. Don't let the fact that I play county chess for Leicestershire, live in De...

Re: 2016 draw

I have been actively involved with the Open team in various ways for much of the past 15 years.. Others have also taken an active role, and unfortunately we lost our captain `mid season` a couple of years back.. We`re not talking particularly about some formidable captain, I don't think. No more so ...

Re: 2016 draw

Most members attended the latest club AGM. Three of the committee members attending hold more than one post. The non-committee members attending included one who had left the committee after 40 years of holding multiple posts (me), one who had been a match captain and hosted committee meetings for ...

Re: 2016 draw

Seems to me the north Manchester lot should join Lancs in the NCCU and the south Manchester mob play for Cheshire, switching to MCCU. In the SCCU there was a general acceptance of the notion that the 1974 County Boundary changes didn't change anything as far as chess eligibility was concerned. In t...

Re: 2016 draw

I went by train to Lancaster, I can't do that to NuL as it hasn't got a train station Though it is only a short bus ride or moderate walk from Stoke-on-Trent station from which there is a frequent bus service. Or use Crewe (or Stafford) from which the busses are less frequent and take longer. Must ...
