Keith,

Howabout R & N vs R? What are your stats with that one?
Probably around 80%, but he scores a lot better if you give him the side with the Knight

Diaganol Method for mating with KNB v K

I only know of the W method of mating with King, Knight and Bishop vs. King, but saw the "diaganol" method mentioned in another thread.

Can someone enlighten me as to how this works?

TIA,

John

I agree, but a poor turnout might put off sponsors for resurrection of a week long FIDE, which would be a shame.

Re: What would you do here

Surely one reason for writing down a draw offer is to guard against opponents who change their minds and deny having made such an offer? I realise writing (=) doesn't prove an offer was made but it might discourage the unscrupulous. Both players are meant to record the =, although I've never checke...

Re: Rough Guide to new grades

I can see next year playing in FIDE rated tournaments against juniors and losing FIDE rating but gaining ECF rating :?

Re: 2 knights v pawn

I successfully held this endgame against Bogdan Lalic once. Got my pawn to g5 before it was blocked, then made sure that if my king was forced into a corner, it was a1. (Thus allowing my pawn to queen with check on the critical move.) I assume Jack that you then knew how to win with Queen vs 2 Knig...

Re: New 'New junior grades'

When I was a junior several centuries ago, I was a very weak player (some say I still am). However, I played a lot and improved gradually by osmosis. After leaving school gave up chess at around 113. My last 5 grades have been, 153, 160, 160, 161, 166. At the age of 106 next birthday I am expecting...

Re: Those annoying less common openings.

How about using the Four Knights thing against two of them? Petroff 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Nc3 Alekhine 1. e4 Nf6 2. Nc3 e5 3. Nf3 Against the Skandinavian... 1. e4 d5 2. ed Qxd5 3. Re: What is the baseline rating for someone who cannot play?

For my own benefit I would like to know the expected rating under the new system of someone who cannot play chess. This is to baseline my understanding of the inflationary measures. For example, if an inanimate object played 30 games and lost them all against the weakest opposition would they end u...

That's good news. Have you any more info like dates, location? Presumably no longer in Port Erin?
