Re: 63rd Southend Congress 19-22 April 2019

(Presumably you had a much better entry to other sections?) When I look at the Open results, I see 44 c...

Re: ECF Grading Proposals

FIDE-rated Opens are common. FIDE-rated sections with an upper rating limit, which is where the problems lie, are less common. They are quite common in Hampstead ;-) Actually in practice people know what their rating is likely to be on the next list, and are able to act accordingly - even when plan...

Re: ECF Grading Proposals

The cutoff for FIDE is the 26th of the month (with a little leeway) - any event that finishes after that goes into the next month's list. That is not correct. It was an erroneous statement on the old ECF registration form. An event which finishes two days before the end of the month (on the 29th in...

Re: ECF Grading Proposals

I don't think anyone would be advocating submission every week. It's a natural consequence of monthly grading that you aren't expected to wait a month for the result. Thus a grading list published for April should be available on the 1st April and should have all results up to and including the pre...

Re: ECF Grading Proposals

Sounds a lot of hassle, which is precisely why I was never in favour of the Bronze/Silver model. All I know is that someone played in the Nottingham Rapid Play in mid Jan and paid his £7.50 or whatever so should be entitled to expect to be upgraded in time to enter the Nottingham Congress in two we...

Re: ECF Grading Proposals

I have a grading proposal. Can we please have the February update? I know of at least one player who entered an event in January as a Bronze member and needs to be upgraded by the ECF in time to enter another event this month without having to pay another £7.50. Isn't that the membership list rathe...

Re: 1st Southend Congress Invitational 18-22 April 2019

Excellent news - thanks to a generous donation we are able to offer prizes in the masters of £800, £500 and £300 - matching the Open section! - tell your titled friends that we are accepting some more registrations here - http://southendchesscongress.org.uk - but that capacity is strictly limited
