Re: Media comments on chess
BBC website asking for "Surprising cricket fans" and good to see Richard James pitching in with Peter Svidler at 12.35 on the live cricket commentary!

Re: 4NCL and the BCF
Richard just got that wrong. I was International Director at the time until I resigned in late 1995, I supported Chris and played in the league. I certainly didn't try to set up a rival league, and I don't recall anyone in the BCF trying to do so.

BCF tried to destroy the 4NCL when it started - for some reason they failed.

Re: 5 Questions about the ECF Academy Tender that need answers
I read it that he had compared his bid to the criteria in the tender document and concluded that he met just about all the criteria, hence the "100% points". He then noted that the successful bid had neither a business plan nor a Head Coach, so concluded that he scored higher. How he knows that with...

Re: World Senior Team Championships Rhodes 2019
A word of warning to those watching on Chessbomb or the live games on the website; even now the result is showing as a 2½ - 1½ victory for Finland and I left work yesterday wondering why John and Chris were playing so poorly. I'm still not sure which game is which.

Re: FIDE Senior Championships 2019
Mike Ian beat me to it, and I would add, as an infrequent visitor to the site 1. The home page is far too busy. I'm currently looking at a 17" screen and can see only half of it before scrolling down. On a phone or iPad, barely 10% of it. 2. It isn't intuitive. There are two banks of links at the to...

Re: FIDE Senior Championships 2019
The ECF site is awful these days. Hard to find anything anywhere. Eg, not that it means anything, but I challenge anyone to find the latest Grand Prix leaderboards in less than 15 minutes. I managed it in 2 - 3 minutes, discovering that you are currently in second place. Well I didn't. Gave up afte...

For two reasons - fill up the h-file and Worst Move on the Board.

More likely lack of awareness. Nothing on the ECF website and until Leonard's post yesterday I had no idea of the dates. Watching now though.

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system
Roger, in the earliest versions of the Clarke system, players could LOSE gradng points even though they won the game. Hence the 40 point cutoff, again which like junior additions was a 1960s development. No, that was a later development, mid-seventies I'd say. It was 50 points when I started playin...
