How is this close to libellous?

a) No names are mentioned and the description does not make it obvious who is being referred to.

b) It might very well simply be a true statement!

Re: Finals day 2 July

Peter isn't that aggressive with black, although he can grind for ever if the mood takes him. Presume he was content with the match situation. Coles - Burnett has an amusing homage to 1980's chess computers at the end of it :) It was actually close to being stalemate - he only had one legal move at...

Re: Live games

A fantastic rook sacrifice from Jim Burnett gives Yorkshire a 3.5-0.5 lead and Middlesex now might just have to stop this from turning into a rout.

Re: Finals day 2 July

All the finals days charts on that website just show one of the teams, I assume it's just the format of the table.

Matthew Webb has been winning so many games like that in the last couple of years, it's very impressive. He won in a similar fashion against Gavin Wall in the Semi-Finals.

Re: What can be done?

Find someone who's ran tournaments before and get them on board.

Wouldn't you need arbiters with certain qualifications anyway before they'll FIDE rate it?

Re: Shamkir Chess

Rather a sobering tournament for the world's current top female player. Disappointing yes, but still after losing 10 FIDE Elo points Hou Yifan remains higher rated than all but four British players, two of whom are semi-retired amateurs. She also remains China's ninth highest rated player which is ...

Re: Shamkir Chess

I've thought for the last couple of years that Hou's opening repertoire is a bit ropey, but perhaps more worrying is that's it's quite narrow. Fortunately this is something that is relatively easy to fix and given her amazing fighting qualities and tactical nouse, I hope she can make the step up to ...

Re: Media comments on chess

There was an interesting analogy on Sky Sports talking about the swap of Kvyat and Verstappen in Formula 1.
