Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal
He told me he has a colleague whose son at university was in the Pfizer trial (everyone was aged 18-25, according to the dentist). The lad does not know whether he has been vaccinated as he could have been in the group that had the placebo. Won't he be told eventually? If he's already had the vacci...

TWIC report on round 1
Pete Doggers
Pete Doggers
GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek said he felt "pretty safe" and probably summed up the general feeling among the players when he noted: "The will of playing again is higher than me being afraid that I might catch something."

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal
I thought the vaccine did not prevent you getting covid-19 or passing it on to other people. I thought it reduced the chances of you becoming seriously ill if you did catch it. If that's right, the Indonesian approach won't work. The BBC report on the Indonesian approach has Most elderly people in ...

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?
Based on yesterday, it appears that a vaccine centre (not the large ones) can do 2,000 patients a week at least, subject to a sufficient supply of vaccines and patients and staff; not difficult to see there being a 1,000 centres nationwide (e.g. there's more than 2 in Liverpool area), and hence hitt...

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?
Another example of the government "ramping things (deaths) up" due to cutting down (austerity). I think you may find that when there's an increase in the population, there's a parallel increase in the number of deaths When the age and size of the population is taken into account, 2020 saw the worst...

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?
Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where COVID-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate estimate there could have been as many as 93,000 deaths involving COVID-19 in the UK. The last time England and Wales reported more than 600,000 deaths in a single year w...

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?
Partly, the vaccine roll-out depends on supplies, with glass vials in short supply rather than the vaccines themselves by the sound of it The real problem is probably going to be the staffing, although the quality of the organisation on the ground is an issue too; my girlfriend is going to help out ...

Dave Monaghan RIP 6 January 1947 - 10 January 2021
I have been notified of the sad death of David Monaghan, coach at 3Cs I am sure that his most notable chess achievement was helping the development of lots of young chess players, but his best result was a draw with David Bronstein, no less, in a simul 3Cs website tribute with pictures Chess loses a...

Re: 4NCL On-Line Season 3
Impressive list of 249 teams plus 177 for Junior 4NCL Agreed. But a list that doesn't include Gonzaga, West is Best, Wood Green or ChessPlus. Seems to have settled at 252 teams, plus 184 in Junior 4NCL Lots of opportunities for people to play online chess, then, and a success story; most won't be b...
