Round 10, Howell is a piece up for apparently not much on move 12 as Black v Aronian. Very strange.

Re: Vladimir Kramnik Announces Retirement

No, it should not be seen as a sad day! He moves on to new pastures and makes clear he will still be with us. Rather, we should smile, wish him well and look forward to whatever he next turns to. Agree with that; sad to see him stop, but glad he's doing so at a time of his choosing; my favourite pl...

Division 3 North shrank a bit with promoted teams leaving
We've got 14 teams but had 20 last season; 2 promoted but 1 relegated; a couple transferred South, some others gone, 1 new team

Big improvement on where we started though

Re: Media comments on chess

I'm currently reading What We Become by Arturo Perez-Reverte, which features quite a bit of chess in the story (not for the first time cf The Flanders Panel)

Re: Stockport Rapidplay Sunday 27 January 2019

My performance at Bolton in November was 166 which would put me in the top section now and yesterday was I think 167 so my real (as opposed to F) grade will keep me there
It must be 30 years since my only other tournament win so it may be time to stop!

Re: English Seniors 2019

I've received an email this morning from the ECF (a pleasing thing in itself) The ECF is relaunching the annual English Seniors Championship with a four day FIDE-rated and ECF graded congress at the St Johns Hotel, Solihull in April 2019. The event will run for four days from 4th to 7th April, with ...

Re: Grand Chess Tour 2019

Ok, to copy Roger, some thoughts IA David Sedgwick has been reappointed as the GCT Chief Arbiter for 2019 well done David The expansion does mean a lot more chess in 2019, so the dates in the calendar are getting full; given we also have Norway 4 - 14 June, World Cup 9 Sep to 2 Oct etc, where are FI...

What is Kramnik's worst ever tournament performance previously? Asking for a friend  Well? Not sure, but pretty classy of Vald to be interviewed after another defeat see Pete Doggers report , lost of top players wouldn't have done so ress chief Tom Bottama started his interview with "Vladimir...
