Re: Inclement weather

We tend not to make hard and fast rules because conditions can vary We had a night last year where one of our (Bury) teams couldn't get to Stockport - they complained because a team arrived from Bolton to play another Stockport team - in my part of Bolton, I couldn't have travelled even in my 4x4 be...

Re: 4NCL NORTHERN LEAGUE

Andrew The MCF will debate in the New Year whether an MCF team, or two, is possible - there are arguments for and against having official Manchester teams If not, there are a few of us interested, and it may be that the bigger clubs like 3Cs, Stockport, Chorlton and Bolton can raise teams - plus a S...

Re: World Cup

The regulations have changed that often, including the Grand Prix in the middle of the series, that most GMs have lost faith with FIDE Carlsen, along with Mickey Adams, pulled out of the GP, and Kramnik never entered it - clearly they are the two in form tournament players at the moment, and the can...

Re: London tournament announcement

I know he has black, but still a little disappointing to see kramnik seemingly happy to have a short draw with Howell as black (Qb3 Na5 Qa4 Nc6 Qb3 etc). I'd have thought given the rating difference and the fact that he trails Carlsen he'd be making a big effort to win today. At the same time, much...

Re: London tournament announcement

I think this was a poor game from Magnus today. The interesting thing will be how David emerges from it. He could say I didn't play play very well and I still drew with the best player in the world; When I mixed things up he wasn't very good. Alternatively he could say my opening was rubbish, I nev...

Re: 4NCL NORTHERN LEAGUE

We're not talking about Sheffield and Stoke as potential venues

Harrogate and Pott Shrigley (Macclesfield) are more likely

You may have better things to do than read all of this, but the key part is at the start

Re: World Cup

I think Aronian has won the GP regardless of who wins the 6th event (if it happens)

The World Cup winner qualifies for the candidates

I think Kramnik has almost certainly qualified by rating after the Tal Memorial, so presumably Carlsen has too

Re: Brtish rapidplay live games is there a link?

The games are not all complete - Hawkins v Arkell in round 4 went on for a lot longer than shown - Keith won a piece, he told me, before blundering He lost last year to Hawkins just after I turned up, and he drew with Howell then too - from a brief chat with him, he seems more focussed on the chess ...
