Re: when should you resign a game?
Mick you should of told him he must record the moves its part of the game he needs to be told for next time it occurs.otherwise he never learn and always do this.especailly if its move 10 and the game just started ok if he got just 5 min left on his clock then we know that he does not have to write...

Re: when should you resign a game?
I once resigned in a won position, so I've tried not to resign much since I've had players miss a mate in one and then lose to me Last week, I had R+B+4 Pawns v R+N, my opponent resigned only when I had won the knight, then later the rook and it was mate in 6 - I was more irritated with the fact tha...

Re: County Success - The White Rose Flies High
David, .... I am not sure why you seem to have a bee in the bonnet about Yorkshire, Towton was a long time ago, and taking these things too far helps no-one. I am aware that there was a dispute this season between the Red and the White Rose, I hope that the hatchet has now been buried..... Simon Da...

Yes, Mike Surtees seems to be mixing it up a bit, and with success too - let's see if he can keep going as the rounds go on, I hope soJustinHorton wrote:...despite moving a piece as early as move four.

Re: pairings Rd 3 British
Jack, Can we see an opening that Stewart would have defaulted according to a previous thread? I challenge you to "Out Surtees" Mike Surtees.... Only move pawns : that will confuse him! I hope Jack's prep is a bit more up to date - Mike reverted to playing proper openings about 6 months ago - ...

Re: 'Betfair' have set up a market on the British Ch!
Howell might run away with it the way he did at the British Rapidplay If not, I would suggest Williams and Arkell will be the best bets Keith won a clock simul 7-0 on Tuesday night, beating Ben Hague and Alan Walton quickly in the process - he was in good humour when we were out on Sunday night (eve...

Ben 9 of the Lancs U175 team play for clubs in the MCF and qualify to play chess for Greater Manchester 4 of the Open team do too Of course, if they want to play for Lancs, then G Man have no problem with that, we're in favour of players having choice The fact that G Man don't have an Open captain, ...

Re: Monthly Grading Lists
Beware the Law Of Unforseen Consequences. A large proportion of English chess is played in events that take the best part of a year to complete, and if the grades were to update within the period covered by the event, there would be the issue of deciding what was the relevant for the purposes of th...

Re: British Junior Championships
I wouldn't keep holding it in the south-east though. If players from the south-east aren't going to the north-west, why should players from the north-west be continually expected to travel to the south-east? Exactly Our top players have come from Truro, Bolton, York, Formby, Oldham to name but 5 of...

Some other interesting results, with Miezis only drawing with white against Oliver Jackson, and Keith beating Martin Brown (who held him recently at Heywood)

Re: County Success - The White Rose Flies High
Under the old rules, the MCCU had 3 Open places for our 8 competing teams
Under the new rules, we get the same
How exactly were we benefiting?
Under the old rules, Lancs and Yorks had 1 place between them - to get 2, they merely had to admit G Man to the NCCU - now that incentive has been lost
