Re: Ugandan player Phiona Mutesi

Looking at Chess Results shows that the Ugandan womens team is among a large number of teams that appear to be absent.

Re: Predict a Result- British Championship top four boards

Brown - Adams 0-1
Emms - Howell 0-1
Palliser - Jones 0-1
Tan - Eggleston 0-1

After inviting the forum to join in predicting the results, I feel that from day 2 we have been rather forgotten.

Re: book discussions

Actually Geoff donated the proceeds of a later book, Rampant Chess, to Chess Scotland. The book, co-authored by Keith Ruxton, is Geoff's usual comedic take on some serious games.
The 'Mastering Chess' book is somewhat of a diversion for Geoff in that it is a quite serious attempt at instruction.

Re: Qatar Masters Open 20-29 December

Magnus, with white, failed to beat a player some 340 elo points lower than he is. What exactly is the significance of gender?

Re: The strongest masters open in the world, no English entries....

Please read Jack's post again.

He clearly indicates that the morning, afternoon and evening tournaments are simultaneous, not the games. Agreed it is a slight misuse of the term simultaneous, but easily understood.

Another game decided by a double blunder, and what a pair of blunders. From +3.2 to -19.3 in two moves!

Re: Semi finals

I have this awful feeling that if the player in question had been played on a board commensurate with his ECF grading, there would have been an appeal that he was not played on a board commensurate with his 'known' strength, i.e. his Yorkshire grade.
