Re: Chess and Road Cycling

Why must I be trolling. Is that an attempt to discredit my posts.

Re: Chess and Road Cycling

An interesting thought. When attending a chess tournament/congress, I notice cars, vans, and the odd motorcycle outside the venue. Cannot recall anyone taking a bicycle to a chess tournament. Of course, distance may be a problem. Cyclists must be treated with respect, it is healthy exercise, and do...

When I meet the civil ones I shall exclude them from my comments.

Re: Chess and Road Cycling

Cyclists always look geeky - those terrible outfits. The perspiring red faces - but then the temptation to nudge them with the bonnet of the jaguar is almost irresistable  The temptation to report cycling-nudging Jaguar drivers to the police for attempted murder is almost irresistible too. Qu...

Re: Is chess a matter of understanding or memory?

Understanding surely out weighs memorising. My husband is just coming up for 49. He has played since he was a teenager and is now achieving his highest rating.
Limits are often self imposed by lack of confidence.

Re: Women at chess clubs

I am aware of the potential of making our chess club seem like a "dating agency." I do not intend to do that, but of course I am aware of the social side of it. I didn't mean that. I meant that if you make chess clubs more attractive, more people will join. And that whatever is stopping more female...

Re: A very pertinent blog post

The girl has opened up and not keeping it bottle up which with my zilch knowledge about these things I guess that is good. Yes? Yes it is a good thing she has opened up. In my case I remained silent for years - many people do. It is important to remember that boys also suffer from this type of beha...

Re: A very pertinent blog post

It is remarkable how often peopple remain complicit but then again as the abuser is in a more powerful position than the other person I truly think it is part of human nature to either turn a blind eye or join in with it.

Re: A very pertinent blog post

I've only ever played a handful women/girls in my career. I've also only been involved in a few matches/tournaments where there has been a female participant in my section I think without exception I hear at least one of some variation of the following: "Make sure you don't lose to a girl" "You won...

Re: A very pertinent blog post

The author of the post claimed she was sexually abused, but did not report it. She should have reported it to the police, or per parents should have reported it to the police. I wonder why her parents did not report what had happened to her daughter. Put these perpetrators behind bars, as happened ...

Misogyny in abundance. Women play chess on the internet speaking for myself.

Re: My Story

Depression can completely cripple a person. For years I watched it systematically destroy my mother and I knew one chess player who killed himself because of severe depression. Unfortunately modern medicine has no easy answers and it still bears a stigma with many non depressives just taking the vie...

My Lord Archbishop, what a scold you are!
And when your man is down, how bold you are!
Of Christian charity how scant you are!
And, auld Lang swine, how full of cant you are!’

Colin
Just a few words hoping that you have made good progress after suffering a stroke - I recall hearing about it shortly after it happened from someone.
