Falkland Islands

The English, Scottish and Welsh chess federations, plus the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands, officially protest against the "unacceptable breach of...jurisdiction" and "diplomatic provocation" of the Argentine Chess Federation. https://www.englishchess.org.uk/ecf-falklands-statement/?fb...

Re: What if a player falls ill....

The problem, yet again, Alex Holowczak, is that the rules are not clearly specified. A lot of sports make allowances for injury, but such interruptions to the flow of play are not, and should never be, indefinite. If it were specified that the arbiter may stop the game for, say, up to 10 minutes, to...

Re: What if a player falls ill....

Nigel Short > The player who falls ill should lose - as they do in tennis. End of story.< Law 12.2.6 The arbiter shall take special measures in the interests of disabled players and those who need medical attention. Beginning of story. Another case in chess of "Arbiter as God Syndrome". Instead of ...

Play the rest of the tournament like he has today (despite the result) and he could yet do better "than expected".

Of course an example of what you suggest was Nigel Short, London 1980.

In the long term, did that help or hinder him?
Hinder. Without a doubt.

Re: Greenlandic Chess

Without a link as supporting evidence, I would suggest that this thread is worthless and should be removed. I should mention, however, whilst we are on the subject, that Luke McShane once won a strongish open tournament in Greenland. I also won a rapid chess match (on tie-break) against Johann Hjart...

Re: ECF AGM 2018

For the record, Tim Wall took several days to remove his defamatory tweet accusing me of being a spy and a traitor, even after I wrote to him. I might add that he has not apologised for it either.

No sign of David Howell at the opening ceremony. Neither Luke, who is staying at the superior Ascot Hotel, nor I (at the Holiday Inn-where most players are staying) have seen him.

Re: London Chess Classic 2017

Remarkable play by Luke, even given the time control. Not really. I analysed this line out to a draw 5 years ago (with colours reversed: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4 Nd5!? etc). I suspect both players are still in their preparation (at move 15) as it is still following Motylev - Radjabov 2010. Ye...

Re: Negros Open, Bacolod City, Philippines.

Yes, it happened, Nick. Joey withdrew, with ill-health, after 3 rounds in the Philippine Championship. His remaining eight games were mistakenly rated. FIDE acknowledged the error and corrected his rating two days ago. Thanks for the congratulations, by the way.

Re: Negros Open, Bacolod City, Philippines.

I believe that I did not lose any rating points, now that Joey Antonio's Elo rating has been corrected upwards by 54 points, by FIDE. Still, it was damned hard work to basically stand still :)
