Re: Negros Open, Bacolod City, Philippines.

Thanks for the kind words, John. Philippinos tend to be underrated, in my view. Yes, I was fortunate with the pairings, but at least I cannot be accused of playing the Swiss Gambit. And believe me, it is actually pretty difficult winning 7 games :) I don't know what ChessBase will do, but I hope the...

Re: Improvement plan for a senior

I would add that it is a very good idea to use a chess engine, such as Stockfish or Komodo, to analyse your games after you have played them. I think you will discover all sorts of mistakes and missed opportunities. I certainly do.

Why does everything have to be so dramatic? What's wrong with the simple explanation given that he said he was resigning, they believed him and had to decide what to do next?
Nick Faulks apparently thinks we are all idiots.

Re: "Kirsan Ilyumzhinov announced his resignation as FIDE President"

To Nick Faulks: You have supported the Kalmyk crook, Kirsan, through thick and thin all these years. What do you think of your dear chum, Nigel, shafting him now? What has the Executive Director suddenly seen that was not obvious to the rest of the universe (except you) before? Pray enlighten us, pl...

Re: Hoogeveen 15-22 October 2016

Thank you, Roger. And, indeed, there is no hypocrisy. I only became aware of this regulation last Friday, in casual conversation with an arbiter. Once I was aware of it, it was clear that the regulation had to be applied. I informed the Tournament Director and, well...the rest is a long and sad stor...

Re: Hoogeveen 15-22 October 2016

Have to say that not rating the final game in a dead match seems entirely sensible. Totally different mentally for the players involved. My advice to the organizers: next year invite a player whose mental attitude doesn't change one iota in those circumstances - Keith Arkell. Obviously, when the or...

And indeed I have received confirmation from Loek van Wely that all 6 games were submitted quite deliberately, in full knowledge that this flouts FIDE Regulations.
