Re: Online Membership

My point is that all RENEWALS between 30th September 2012 and 31st July 2013 will be of existing members who have been promised proportionate membership. So going back to Angus's implied question, will the on-line system support proportionate renewals? For that matter, did you work out the loss of ...

Re: Online Membership

Roger, You quoted my comment referring to "during the 2012/13 membership year" and then attempt to refute it by referring to the list as it was on 26 June 2012. My point is that the vast majority of those who will be members during the 2012/13 membership year will have expiry dates of 31 August, and...

Re: Online Membership

I stand by my use of the term "vast majority". Look at RENEWALS over the period August 2012 to July 2013. Once the MO renewals at 31st August 2012 are out of the way (and you accept there are around 1700 of them), everyone else RENEWING before August 2013 will be on the anniversary system, so you w...

Re: Online Membership

I've received an e-mail from someone with a clearer memory than me of the Finance Council meeting who recalls that the proposal to limit the online discount to £1 for 3-year memberships was made by a Council member. It would therefore be wrong of me to overrule the prescribed figure in that case. I...

Re: Online Membership

2. True, you can't renew that far in advance. For the vast majority - who will be on a 31 August expiry - they will be able to purchase the following year's membership around 1 July. We could make it available earlier if there was a demand. In individual cases, if you really wanted to do your April...

Re: Online Membership

I'll take personal responsibility for this and Council can reprimand me if it wishes. I was the one pressing for the limitation of the online discount to £1 even on a 3-year membership. I reflected on it and felt that it was churlish not to grant £1 per year of membership, because the principle -...

Re: Online Membership

A few comments on the newly-announced membership system: 1. I was able to use the ‘Forgot password’ function to retrieve my system-generated password. I was then able to login and see that my details had been correctly migrated. 2. I wasn’t able to renew in advance (my current membership expi...

Re: Online Membership

Roger de Coverly wrote:How much extra would it cost the ECF in Office expenses if everyone renewed directly with the ECF by post or phone?
If I had to guess: about £15,000, possibly considerably more. (I'm assuming that you are excluding bulk submissions from an MO as well.) It seems an unlikely scenario.

Re: Online Membership

I have no idea what the ECF system will do when you click 'forgot password', but suspect that you don't either. Which is why I asked. If the CEO believes the system will send the quoted email address a brand new password, he should have said so. I specifically said that the system would send you a ...

A valid question to ask is "What if I don't want to disclose an email address to the ECF?".
Then you will need to join and renew by phone or mail.

Re: Online Membership

New members can now join the ECF online and pay from their PayPal account or by debit or credit card. Their membership is instantly activated. The ECF might wish to clarify whether the April Council meeting set the three year membership at £ 36 ( 3 * £ (13-1)) or £ 38 ( 3 * £13 - £ 1). I'll ta...

Re: Online Membership

- We shall also be sending out e-mails to all other existing members (i.e. with renewal dates later than Aug 2012), advising them of the new system and of their username (their e-mail address) and system-generated password. So what happens in August 2013 when we've all lost or forgotten our passwor...

Re: Online Membership

The Online Membership system is up and running - see the notice at the top of the ECF Home page. This takes you to some introductory guidance to the system, from which new members can click through to PaySubsOnline and join online. New members can now join the ECF online and pay from their PayPal ac...

If the photo dates from 1920, Reshevsky would have been 8 or 9 (b.1911).

I don't know the date, but the child is Reshevsky.
