Re: Repercussions / Fallout from FIDE Elections?

Another initiative seems to be to get more women into senior positions within FIDE. Do we think the Presidential Board is male dominated? Let's have a look at a Group photo and see what the ratio is. 27 male, 3 female, plus one I'm not sure of. Probably a higher percentage of women than one sees at...

Re: Offering draws with a blunder or dodgy move

I had one with a similar theme. It didn't actually involve a draw offer, though the game was eventually drawn. Particularly annoying as my opponent was a FM, so I missed a good scalp. In this position he played ...Ne5?? to which I replied Qf6??

Re: What happens when the pub closes

Four years ago my club had a similar scenario to Drunken Knights - the pub was refurbished and although we could have stayed it would have cost too much. Fortunately we managed to find somewhere else at a more reasonable cost.

As regards the clock
6.2.3 A player must press his clock with the same hand with which he made his move.
Breach of this rule of course does not constitute an illegal move as defined by 7.5.4 (I think?) so again I believe the penalty is at the arbiter's discretion, i.e. 12.9.

prizes were more likely to be goods than cash. Examples in my experience have been clothing, a mug, chocolate, a set of tools and a bunch of bananas.
I don't know how I managed to forget this in my previous post, but I've just remembered that at one race I won...a chess set!

Re: State of Chess: How much money is in the sport?

Never really much money in fell running either coming or going. You're not kidding. After a good run at Langdale one year I got a fiver in a plain brown envelope. This was a bit naughty, as it was in the days when there was a strict distinction between amateur and professional athletes. However, ev...

Re: Live ratings (January 2019)

I would like to tell you how the events which are rated "live" are selected, but I do not know that myself. There is certainly a difference between the two lists. Maybe due to different events being selected, or maybe the FIDE site is just not being updated so quickly. However chess2700.com has in ...

FIDE now have a 'Live' rating list on their site when you click on the ratings page. This has the top 100 players and not just the 2700 club.
So does chess2700.com, under the 'Top100' tab.

The quote above says 7 rounds, the website however says only 6, being Thursday evening, two rounds Friday and Saturday and one Sunday.
Which is correct?

Re: Incremental controls - the `unlimited` game.

The Leagues in which I play allow the home team to decide whether or not increments will be used. As far as I know, no potential visiting player has refused to visit a club which uses increments. Of course 30 seconds is ideal if possible, but as Roger says, 10 or 15 seconds is adequate. In most case...

Re: Media comments on chess

On an edition of Eggheads this week, one of the Sport questions had 'Chess' as one of the three possible answers. Although it wasn't the correct answer to the question, I thought it noteworthy that the quiz compilers considered Chess a sport.

Re: FIDE Grand Swiss 2019 (Candidates qualifier)

What is vital is that there must be a properly devised playoff system, with at least a full day set aside for it. Two would be better. Looks like there won't be. The regulations state- If the top two (2) or more players score the same points, the tie is to be decided by the following criteria, in o...
