Re: County Championship Rules

Cheers Jack. Who is the Controller, or is that still to be decided? Shame about Juniors who are not strong enough for the u120s that this rule means they can not take part. I know that Yorkshire are struggling for an u100 team this season and I was thinking of offering to help out with a largely ung...

Re: 4NCL North 2013-14

Great to see the 4NCL Div 3 North growing in numbers. There were certainly quetsions as to whether it would survive after Year 1 when I think we had 8 teams and 2 of them were from Bradford. Good memories though of some fun wekeends away and some good chess. Personal highlights: 1. Camping for two n...

Re: BKCA Junior RapidPlays - Bradford

Now fully up and running and slowly growing in recognition with some players starting to attend from far flung corners of the North such as Preston, Manchester and Wakefield :-)

Looking forward to another good event in October. Please get in touch if you would like to play.

Re: Bradford Chesstival in the Park

Andy B - listened to this last night on play back, shame it was not more widely circulated in advance that this interview was happening. I thought Sam did a good job and made an enthusiastic "sell" to the general public. Not sure if wasting 15mins on historical references to things like historic Fis...

County Championship Rules

Can anyone please direct me towards the County Championship Rules? I am particularly keen to understand: 1. how juniors are graded (i.e. can they automatically play in the u100s if they have no ECF grade)? 2. do all players have to be ECF members? If yes, at what level? 3. does anyone know how the a...

Roger de Coverly wrote:Going back to the original subject of the topic, will the Northern junior event be graded and did it insist on ECF membership/a Game Fee enhanced entry fee as a condition of entry?
We charged nothing for entry and the games will not be graded.

Re: To the organisers of the U16 County Event today

May I remind you that Cheshire and North Wales are called Cheshire and North Wales and not just Cheshire. Cheshire AND NORTH WALES did really well to get third today with six North Wales players making up the team so it's galling to hear that the team was constantly referred to as Cheshire. Even mo...

Re: To the organisers of the U16 County Event today

Hi Andrew, As Competition Controller of the Pennine Cup today I was very happy with how the event went overall and hope that you would agree that it was a great success to have 9 team (of 12 players) taking part in the event. I hope that Cheshire and North Wales were proud of their bronze medal plac...

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

Sean - I really dont want to get into a debate as to how the ECF should be funded (and perhaps more importantly what it should spend its money on). My opinion is as I have stated in relation to people playing the game as a hobby in their local pub, there is a difference between that level of chess a...

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

This whole thread leaves a very sour taste in my mouth. When a game that we all love playing comes down to legal disputes over grading systems it is enough to make the most devoted lover of the game want to walk away all together. I don't know what Martin wanted to achieve by starting this thread bu...

Re: Keith Trobridge

Keith was a really nice guy, and a stalwart of Shipley Chess Club. I played him many times over the years and always enjoyed the games. Two in particular that I will always remember against Keith were (i) a re-arranged Bob Burns Summer Tournament game that we played in the beer garden at the Goldsbo...
