Re: FIDE Delegate Election, Short v Jones

I find it somewhat surprising that in his election address Nigel Short feels the need for negative campaigning against his opponent. I do not doubt that Nigel had the best interests of English chess at the forefront of his mind when preparing this address. Nonetheless his address really does put acr...

Re: Compulsory Membership?

The general consensus was that accepting the proposals and trying to make universal membership work was the lesser of two evils. Andrew - glad to hear that the YCA voted to support the ECF as I had to leave before the vote took place. I assume that it is a case of either (i) pay £2.00 game fee whe...

Re: 4NCL 2012 RapidPlay Weekend

Roger - yes it is all very confussing.

I look forward to reciving confirmation from the 4NCL as to what level of membership (or alternatively fee per player) is required to take part in the competition. :)

Re: 4NCL 2012 RapidPlay Weekend

Mike - Thanks for the information, I assumed that it would probably be the same format but just wanted to check.

I will do my best to fire up the Yorkshire Hordes!

Clarification in due course on the level of ECF membership required would certainly be appreciated.

4NCL 2012 RapidPlay Weekend

Great to see that the 4NCL RapidPlay Weekend is in the diary again for this year (29 + 30 Sept at Harben House). We (Bradford DCA Knights) entered a team in this back in 2010 and really enjoyed the format. I was gutted not to be able to play in 2011 due to a clash with my wedding. I've started to pu...

Re: Compulsory Membership?

Or, the Chester League could play against the Manchester League in a friendly if you wish - we normally play Morecambe annually, and have played both Bradford and Sheffield in the last few years The Manchester vs Bradford match was a great event. We hosted it at the Idle WMC in Bradford. Manchester...

Re: NEW JUNIOR CHESS CLUB - BRADFORD

Hi Roger,

To the best of my knowledge the Bradford based Renaissance Chess Academy ceased to be active 2-3yrs ago. I don't really have any further information on what happened to that entity.

For the avoidance of doubt, our new club is in no way connected with the Renaissance Chess Academy.

Re: FIDE Law Suit

I find it amazing that given the financial difficulties the ECF currently faces that it would choose to bring legal action of this nature, irrespective of the backing/indemnification/guarantees that have been provided by this unknown individual. To echo the sentiments of other posters on this thread...

Re: 4NCL Northern League....steps forward

We'll be entering 4 or 5 teams in the 4NCL. We might be entering one team in the North but not yet decided. Sean - If you are able to enter a team in the northern league and have a good captain in mind to run them then please let me know if you need help with players. I know plenty of people wantin...

Re: Round 11 results

Well done to Spirit of Atticus for pushing my Bradford team all the way in Div 3. You were looking likely to win the league until the final day.

However, as we beat you in our head to head match you can't grumble too much that we won the league in the end on board count.

Re: Has anyone ever given up chess?

p.s. Roger - As far as I am aware all Yorkshire games (long play or rapid play) are graded for free.

Re: Has anyone ever given up chess?

Roger - I am going to decline the invitation to get involved in any sort of debate on game fee/membership/ECF funding. I am probably not a typical chess player in that I don't mind paying a reasonable entry fee to take part in a well run tournament. Personally I don't care at all about my "rapidpla...

Re: Has anyone ever given up chess?

I read this thread with great personal interest after recently deciding to give up the game for a few years at the end of this season for family and work reasons. I know that I will miss playing competitive chess greatly as I have played since the age of 10 and now at the ripe old age of 27 I am pro...
