Re: 4NCL

Really looking forward to getting started in the Northern League. Would be great to see the list of registered players for the other teams to see how strong that division will be. Even though I have no idea of the strength of the other teams I am predicting a top place for Bradford DCA Knights A Tea...

Re: Nigel Short tour

This is great news, congrats to Nigel for his work in promoting the game. I would have loved to have offered to host a simul in Yorkshire, having recently held a couple of very enjoyable GM simuls. Unfortunately though it is not the best timing for me personally. I hope that the tour is a great succ...

Re: Pre-Season Build Up

Hi All, Some really interesting stories about what various clubs get up to over the summer and how they prep for the new season. Idle Chess Club, have had a particularly busy summer this year as we have run a summer individual competition (open to all league players), hosted 3 x Blitz events, hosted...

Re: How interested are you in seeing your grading details?

My last post on this topic: Alex - I beg to differ. There are no where near 326 players in the BDCA, I assure you, I was secretary of the league last season! Sean - I hold no office in the YCA and will not presume to speak on their behalf. All I will say is that the YCA grading scheme is excellent a...

Re: How interested are you in seeing your grading details?

Andrew - how much are league fees in Bradford? £30.00 per 6 man team, i.e. £5.00 per player per year. My club (Idle Chess Club) charges its members £20.00 per season which covers the above, and also our membership of Idle WMC. the ECF have the right to give notice to terminate any MO This is a b...

Re: How interested are you in seeing your grading details?

Just to clarify my position on this rather complex topic: 1. I am in favour of chess having a national body. 2. I am in favour of that national body running a national grading list. 3. I am happy to pay for that grading list (which I personally see as the main benefit I get from the ECF) via my memb...

Re: How interested are you in seeing your grading details?

Alex - My understanding has always been that BDCA games are not ECF graded except for those of ECF members who are game fee exempt? I play in a local 5-a-side football league. I dont pay a penny to the FA. To get to the essence of this discussion - how would you convince players in a local evening l...

Re: How interested are you in seeing your grading details?

Roger, In answer to both of your questions - No. But why should we force our members to be mebers of the ECF when they get nothing from the ECF? If they play congresses and FIDE rated chess then they become ECF members. But why should "Joe Bloggs in the Nags Head in Leeds" be "forced" to be an ECF m...

Re: How interested are you in seeing your grading details?

This is entirely incorrect for 2 reasons:

1. Many YCA players are ECF Members, including myself.

2. Most, if not all, YCA congresses and the YCA Saturday League are ECF graded and so pay grading fee towards the ECF.

Therefore how are we not contributing?

Pre-Season Build Up

Do most leagues around the country start again in September? The leagues I play in (Bradford, Leeds and Yorkshire) all start up again in September. Personally I love this time of year as everyone is getting excited about the start of the new campaigns, the fixtures are being released, pre-season tra...

Re: How interested are you in seeing your grading details?

Here is the link to my 2010-2011 Yorkshire Grade http://www.chessnuts.org.uk/ny5/pdetails.php?playerid=6471 I voted 10 ;-) When the ECF grading system is as slick as Chessnuts, will there be any point in a separate Yorkshire grading list? Of course there will, unless the ECF will simultaneously scr...

Re: 4NCL NORTHERN LEAGUE

Great to see that on the website that the number of teams in the Northern League is now up to 9. I think that we appear to be seeing the formation of a good foundation to get this competition up and running. p.s. I am happy to hear from any other players still looking for a team and interested in pl...
