Re: Board Games Morning

There is a Board Games Morning every Tuesday in Reading Central Library, Abbey Square, 10.30-11.30. Bring your own sets, I suppose, no contact name on the poster but many different games illustrated.

I see Charlie Storey, who did the commentary last year, and Simon Williams, who has great following in this domain at large, are both playing in the British in Torquay. Andrew Martin, who they/we relied for so many years, is not going, leaving this spectator a-wondering who is down to do the comment...

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

L@@king at the list of entrants for Torquay, I spotted - horror - one GM out of the near fifty that might have registered. Surely they can do better than this?

Quit Stallin'

I wonder: how many events these days lack bookstalls? Increasingly I find them not at all. :(

Dom

I think Dominic Lawson's chess column in Standpoint magazine disappeared some months ago. He had plenty of space and I enjoyed what he wrote. Can't we ask why/where/how our President's scribblings got snaffled-? Shouldn't we all write in and complain?

Re: Guardian Chess Column

I think there's a game of Frank Hatto's with a mate like this, Geoff. BH Wood quoted it.

The link was blocked by a BT notice. It still is. Mystery;-)
Anyway, I now have the game in spades.

Thanks to all.

1954

I am after a game PH Clarke-v-Johansson played at the Amsterdam Olympiad, 1954. Peter played him several times but the offending score eludes me.

The finale, which is pretty sweet, is given in 'Queen Sacrifice' by Neishtadt.

But I'd like all the moves.

Cheers
James

Still listed as qualifiers for Torquay 2019:
two ladies no longer with us, Margaret Clarke and Joan Doulton. (So is Bryon Jacobs for that matter)

Re: INFO WANTED: 1979 British Championship Official Programme

I have the programme of Chester 1979 and am happy to give it to John if he contacts me chessparrot@hotmail.com with contact details. I may also have an entry form which might appeal. The tie-split has a legacy: Nunn's dislike of the British Championship which he won at last in 1980 never to return. ...
