Re: Shropshire Chess Congress 2016 Live Games

We would all love to see every game fought to the bitter end, but it is perfectly understandable that they didn't want to risk going home empty-handed. We are delighted with the great sporting entertainment that the titled players and others have given us this weekend. Let's see how many join them o...

Re: Shropshire Chess Congress 2016 Live Games

Profuse apologies for the mix-up on the live boards at the start of the third round. Some embarrassment that the organisers all nipped off for some late lunch when it started and omitted to press the crucial button to start the round on the DGT server. It was therefore showing round three fro...

Re: Shropshire Chess Congress 2016 Live Games

Round 1 results went largely to form, although creditable draw for Shropshire player Simon Maydew who held Peter Poobalasingam to a draw. Round 2 draw includes some tough battles with a number of titled clashes - Milliet-Vakhidov; Gormally-Cox; and Jackson-Merry. Shropshire Open Round 2 1 8 Milliet,...

Re: Prizes Then And Now

I am not clear from the original analysis how many congresses in the 1970s offered £1,000 prize. I wouldn't imagine there were many, but someone with a stack of old magazines might of course prove me wrong! Following up on the points raised by Andrew Z, we have made some changes to the forthcoming S...
