Re: Change to Fines for Non-Members ?

but I'm wondering if the ECF is in the process of issuing invoices for leagues or if these have already been sent. That's why the issue has surfaced. I know that Roger. My point is that I'm expecting a couple of invoices to come to me so either they haven't been issued yet or they've gone to the wr...

Re: Change to Fines for Non-Members ?

The new system is much better as it does away with the `tax` element of the old system in that you're no longer incurring a £2.50 charge every time a non member plays; allowing you to give a new player a go or use a one off reserve for free. This isn't really one for a public forum but I'm wondering...

Re: Good/Bad things from the British 2019

Bad was the Issue that we are not allowed to talk about but maybe the ECF need to look at this and maybe think that something along the line of if a player does get DQ then the match point is award, but the graded game should not!! I may be wrong but is it not the case that this regulation (game co...

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

I agree that a line should be drawn on this matter There is the question as to what a player should do if an opponent appears to be behaving suspiciously. GMs and IMs, you might assume, despite some evidence to the contrary, act with integrity. Where younger players make frequent absences from the ...

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

I don't know about the main room but in the other room Geoff Gammon has repeated the same notices daily including the rules about mobile phones. I assume that is so there can be absolutely no misunderstanding.

Re: Needing to be ECF member to play in British Championships?

But is there something wrong with chess promotion when the ECF can take its annual tournament to a town without a chess club and without plans to use the national event to promote local interest? By my count there will be three other Congresses in Torquay this calendar year, assuming the October/No...

Re: Governance issues

Tomorrow's ECF Board of Directors meeting will have the first opportunity since the Finance Council in April to properly discuss the still unresolved governance concerns I and others have raised about the sudden resignation of Traci Whitfield as Junior Director last year and the subsequent appointm...

Re: Needing to be ECF member to play in British Championships?

On the subject of British Championship costs (and apologies if I've missed a communication) is there any reason why the weekday rated events have gone up in cost from £40 last year to £70 this year? I don't mind paying but it is a bit of a big leap.

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

Cumbria would have the University of Cumbria and also the Rheged Centre just off junction 40 at Penrith is pretty large. Would you be able to support the ECF by negotiating the venue (or at least finding out what the terms are)? There was some chuntering when the British went to Hull in 2018 but th...

Re: Sid Kirby

I didn't actually know Sid Kirby personally although I used to see him at events and he played in the annual Harrogate vs York friendly match a few times. A grade ultimately only measures your performance against other graded opposition rather than being an indicator of playing strength in itself an...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

I doubt we can revolutionize local chess in one fair swoop, but, how about start by widening the reach and voices at Council? One member one vote. No block votes. No votes for leagues or counties or tournament organisers. No proxies. No taxation without representation. I don't think Council would v...
