Re: Exhausted Tie Breaks

It's a very reasonable subject for discussion, as is any dispute where a difficult call has to be made. My concern was that any discussion might prejudice any decisions made between the two teams. Also, at the time the thread was started I had not yet been able to contact Jim Burnett to set the proc...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

I'm quite happy to stick to my description of Roger's report as "grossly misleading". You'll need to wait a few days before I comment further (assuming you want to read what I write). I am always happy to read what people have to say. There is a legitimate concern about the perception that ECF memb...

Re: Exhausted Tie Breaks

Obviously this thread has now been re-opened. It was locked at my request and I'm disappointed to hear that Carl has received some grief about this. Taking the substantive point first, the Yorkshire league rules state that if a dead heat occurs (game points are the first qualifier, followed by the r...

Re: Coaches and junior organisers group

Hi Roger Yes I am looking for a dedicated topic area. I am waiting to see if there is any interest in this first. So Hoping a lot if people will make comments so I can the. Refer back to Carl Carl wouldn't be able to set up a dedicated forum for junior coaches and organisers (who up to a point are ...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

What Malcolm did not provide was the split in expenditure between the Open and Women’s teams and a breakdown of the “fees” figure to show, in particular, the total amount spent on appearance fees. Malcolm was asked for this information at the meeting and he was asked for it quite a few times before...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

angus -Roger Emerson’s report to Gold members which is grossly misleading. I disagree with you on this matter. it was joint up, well thought out asked for comments before on voting intentions. so what more could I want. it seems there is too much I in team ECF - we volunteer in all sorts of ways fo...

Re: ECF Supporter

Thanks Angus, so roughly 8 % of members don't play. Interesting. The ECF board currently have a 9% non player count (David Eustace who is of course actively involved as an arbiter and organiser). Last year when Traci Whitfield was on the board the count was higher. I can think of handful of players...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

That Malcolm Pein had provided a detail breakdown of international spending. If certain individuals (I'm looking at one in particular) refuse to accept the answer given then that is their privilege. It's politics. What Malcolm did not provide was the split in expenditure between the Open and Women’...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

"I was wondering, Andrew, if there was some kind of equation, some kind of way of working out who, exactly, is entitled to have a go at whom, how often and for what length of time. Such information would be tremdendously useful to many of us and enable us to plan our time more effectively." I don't...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

Reading Tim Wall's original post it does seem that Mike Truran asked, `What do you do for the ECF?` rather than, `What do you do for English chess`. There is a small but not insignificant difference. It arises from the question as to what ECF members actually get for their money and it is a reasonab...

Re: Exhausted Tie Breaks

At the risk of repeating myself this complex matter is being discussed with those it effects to find a resolution. It does not concern anybody who has contributed to this thread.

EDIT - including the topic starter!

Re: Exhausted Tie Breaks

This is an extremely complex situation. For that reason I intend to ask Carl to lock this thread. At present it concerns solely the teams concerned and the principal officers of the YCA, excepting of course the one who cannot get involved.

Re: April Council meeting 2019

The only close vote was on Chris Fegan's county championship proposal, which was entirely redrafted but narrowly lost anyway. According to the report by the Gold members' representative, the proposal became that a county fielding a female player got an extra board point. Nothing about whether the f...

Re: 15% markup in ECF transfer fees for World Schools Ch, Turkey

Having followed this thread it does seem that there is a selection process that is flawed and that Alex is working to change it. While I agree that we have not sent our strongest possible team there are other factors that need to be considered, not every parent can afford to pay for an expensive hol...

Re: Membership fees resolution (from NCCU)

Whatever the outcome of the NCCU proposals it does boil down to the same old thing. Yes ECF members should be getting more for their money and the ECF should do more to increase the player base. But where is the strategy and the team of volunteers who are going to deliver it? You could argue about ...
