Re: Media comments on chess

Michael Gove move not a demotion, says David Cameron

So is it an under-promotion?

Re: Child Genius

Many chats with strong juniors & their parents this year. Also with those that were former junior prodigies. I just hope the programme is better than Nigel Short's Blue Peter Badge. The parents of juniors may or may not remember that. Unlikely to be anything better on TV at 9 on Sunday so thanks for...

Re: Union Reps Skype Meeting 17/July

I do not believe there are an abundance of players in SCCU wanting to play county chess above the teams currently playing. There are other family & other interests, as well as w/e chess tournaments & junior events too. A big tournament in London at semi-final stages & and a England World Cup match. ...

Re: Media comments on chess

Today's Evening Standard - World Cup poker game - Holland v Argentina. Both bosses hold aces so poker game is tough to call. On reading the article it certainly sounds like CHESS rather than poker. "No other managers have tried so many formations, no other teams have displayed such tactical variatio...

Re: Possession of (or by) Mobile Phones

Not really an option in closing evening chess - particularly as ECF charge our members for our rating purposes.

Re: Possession of (or by) Mobile Phones

I wish those working on sorting out ECF rules, tournament rules, County Rules & our club competition rules well. Also for those playing in tournaments in July. On 4 NCL issue is all these in use in premises for those waiting. I'm sure the luggage issue is resolvable. Just trying to work out what we ...

Re: How Good Would This Be?

The answer is in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Answer 42 - deep thought Relevant calculations for what that means - the computer is size & mass of the whole Earth Slartibartfast designed the fjords of Norway The answer is in Magnus Carlsen's brain but he does not know it yet. Hopefully the mi...

Re: Lecture Course

Paul & Julian, Best wishes in this venture. Please feel free to post me 20 copies of fliers (I have not got access to a printer) & I will raise at Thames Valley AGM (A.O.B.) on Mon 30th June. Both of you are very enthusiastic speaking to me & others about chess so you will be able to translate that ...

Re: Acceptable conduct

The acceptable response to an opponent putting your pieces facing the way they want is when it is your move to put the pieces facing the way you want.

Only make this in own time.

Re: Media comments on chess

It's tough in the Surrey league. I've worn my shin pads after footie training for certain games. I recall some years (20+) ago via football media of a Norway international player also being a GM at chess. So that will give Magnus something else to think about. Anyway watching England play football 8...

Feels improper to me too.
X factor voting is a bit more secretive.

Re: NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

I'm not to sure why there is any concern of motives of officers & volunteers, & those that support ECF & chess organisation.

I really appreciate all that you contribute, ANGUS, JACK, DAVID & others as well as what you will continue in the future.

Re: We're goin' to Vegas!!!

It will probably happen but not that many runners. There was a recent attempt to fill Wembley for a poker tournament - got nowhere near the numbers but still ran. Go to WSOP in Vegas & sure you can get high stakes (or low) chess games. A lot of ex-chess players play poker now. Many play both. I have...
