Re: Euro 2016

Caught by a better team playing on break. Fantastic workrate. Ought to have got the youngster on earlier.
4 years time with Brexit may not have to go through all the heartache of football.
At least rugby, cricket & maybe tennis on the up.

Re: Surrey Junior Chess Association?

Also looking at SCCU site plenty of Surrey Junior Chess. This season.
Surrey hosting a number too.
Plenty of other successes in congresses & representative teams.

Re: Surrey Junior Chess Association?

In your first instance put your query to Neill. As list on SCCA site SCCA AGM is on 26/06 & this list may change. The junior managers are excellent letting us know availability for County Chess etc. Nice to see Brian poulter league as strong as ever - that's where I first got my experience. Junior T...

Re: 2016 draw

Not afraid of a chess match.
Terrified of M25/M1 & heavy thunderstorms/showers.
Best wishes.

Re: 2016 draw

U160s Surrey lost 6-10 to Middlesex. A few players caught in torrential rain but got warmed up with tea/coffee cake & biscuits & some chess. Well deserved win for Middlesex & best wishes for the final. Waiting on hearing about the Open Surrey v Yorkshire. Tomorrow U180/U140 double header Lancs v Sur...

Re: Player of the Year

Yes I will. I'm sleeping on my POTY decision.

I will think about my encomium too. Plenty of locals with 50 years so will want to get that right.

Re: Player of the Year

Thanks Mike, we are the English Chess Federation & English was not my favourite subject. Perhaps we all ought to have got views to the ECF earlier on type of awards too, as does not reflect a lot of the good work in chess that goes on. Some comparisons will the past are fine but as another big sport...

Re: Player of the Year

It is a nice e-mail. Shame Chris Kreuzer not on but may well be his recent result not in the time period.

Will have to think about my one vote (even on the last vote for mayor of London we got two).

My only thought on rest of the e-mail was why use encomium instead of eulogy?

Re: 2016 draw

It was a shame to have a busy week at work, & on a day off picking up on this thread. I feel sorry for Staffs & Middlesex organisers & players - generally there are a lot of volunteers doing a lot of organising & then teams & maybe the organisations collapse. It is difficult enough for the counties ...

Re: Arbiters (jobs for) proposal.

Mike & all Roger missed...The rules of a competition may specify a different, less severe, penalty. http://www.englishchess.org.uk/grading/ecf-competition-rules Quite simply coming from work to an evening game without a car people are more likely to have a phone present & hosts of the night will not...

Re: Arbiters (jobs for) proposal.

Mike it is in the ECF competition rules but looks like a rather nuclear option & surely all leagues/competitions just need to put their wording on this to Alex. Not least many agreed warnings last season & only then if phone went off loss of game in their rules. Says wif 1st September 2016. I find t...

Re: Arbiters (jobs for) proposal.

Plenty of lead in time to discuss as these are 5 years away for leagues.
Alex looks like he has done a good job to rationalise & consult.
ECF realise that most posts are volunteers.

Re: The plans for the Grading System

A player in my league e-mailed me yesterday assuming I have seen & completed. I have not had the e-mail but I'm not going to give Alex a hard time over this. I'm sure he will be fine with more responses over the w/e now made aware. I had to chase ECF for our charges at AGM time last time - so may we...
