Re: FIDE Laws - An Interesting Case

As an arbiter make a decision.
The player to make the move ought to be the one that resigned first.
Ensure you have appeal committee for your tournaments.

Re: FIDE Laws - An Interesting Case

As it was an ungraded and unrated game, and I was feeling kindly disposed, I scored it 0.5 - 0.5.

Perhaps Paul -FIDE Laws not applicable in this instance. But an interesting thread.

Re: Tata Steel 10th-28th Jan 2020

Banning headgear may be racist and earpieces is discrimination against those that have hearing aids. Yes that's me. Absence of clocks on the wall is a big zero at Olympia. I cannot wear a watch or jewellery. I think in certain areas the anti-cheating has gone too far. But if the penalties were lifet...

Re: New grading conversions

I think the biggest issue is to get ECF Membership before getting a graded game when currently they an pay late in June 2020. Bronze members are a big part. I think 60 is better than 90. 100 is too high and 50 is too low for an adult. Anyway I hope to see you again at 4NCL soon.

Re: FIDE Laws - An Interesting Case

Paul - that your interesting case is appears to be a junior event means I ought not have commented. I think the correct actions would have been to laugh, say you cannot both resign, stop the clocks and ask if they both want to continue. But seems other things happened. Explaining the right etiquette...

Re: New grading conversions

:D The half rating ought to have been set at 1150 not 1850. May equate to 60 ECF but has been ages since we assumed all new players were graded 90 which converts to 1375. 1850 is madness for a first result. Get the starting point right at 1150 please. :D

Yes that is nice. Let's hope not a single default on any board over the weekend. That's not too much is it?

Re: FIDE Laws - An Interesting Case

Never shake hands. May be taken to be I resign, I agree a draw, or I accept your resignation. I think I ought not to knock over my king to resign anymore. Especially when I'm on a live board. I still have no idea why the anti-cheating device went off LCC round 6 other than my jeans have a metal sip ...

Yes. And ought to penalise the player 2 minutes for being the cause of the disruption. :D

Re: Hastings Congress

It wins the game quicker. Mark won anyway. Wins for both Nicks and Roger. Richard's game was impressive too.

I hope Richard gets a great result tomorrow.

Enjoy the evening all of you.

Re: Hastings Congress

it was a rather bad Benko reversed even as far as this 1700 player is concerned. I think 2. e4 is a massive improvement. I agree that f5, e4 etc were ambitious but the type of aggressive moves I play with either colour. Anyway time to log-in for todays chess and seeing if Richard, Roger and both Nic...

Re: New grading conversions

What is the basis of 1850? It is too high compared to me and is insulting to most adults and current junior chess players. Is it the midpoint? This ought to inflate grades in the new system. Why not grade them as 90 plus the relevant conversion in the new system for the extra result on initial gradi...
