Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

Not having long enough to seal a move is a problem. Especially a match not starting on time on an overrunning junior club. There are exceptions of course on starts. I think ECF will have a problem in implementing a new grading system with instructing leagues on how they can play their games. Quite a...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

Ok it seems London is out on a limb. Not the first time. I seem to remember we voted to remain. I also do not believe the leagues have got it wrong on adjournments. Nor the leagues which have folded for lack of players. We have done some strategic thinking as well as action at our club. There is a d...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

Why nothing wrong with adjournments and adjudications? Particularly as both leagues voted for them (as well as London League which I also play in). Looks like you want to scrap more than half the graded games in England as part of the process. What is the point of that for those that care about ches...

Re: 2018 FIDE Rapid & Blitz World Championships

I have got no issues. More at home we do not want others to bring in food and drink not purchased at our venue. A reminder to dress appropriately. Perhaps some sound detectors, scanners & big brother observation to those using tablets. And help from care services as some players are not very steady ...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

Nick I agree with you on something. But some of our own teams do not update results on the current systems within 24 hours. Or it may be wanting confirmation from opposition or a controller or something else. Mick yes it is also the point. I'm quite miffed when both teams get the wrong player. I thi...

Re: 2018 FIDE Rapid & Blitz World Championships

Think of the practicalities of a jacket sleeve knocking over pieces. Looking forward to all the action replays & disputes (rather than blitz games themselves). An appropriate plain t-shirt, on plain short sleeve shirt ought to be fine. Even in football top level you can wear short or long sleeves wi...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

I think the issue is about those that report the results & consult with them. Some match captains on the night take 2 weeks to input. It may well be because the opposition captain has not got the correct player details. So when disputes happen they may not have been passed to the controller to deal ...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

I always put the match date into the grading system. It was a useful control for rjh & on these matters I miss his comments. Merry Christmas all.

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

The LMS is principally for a team result in a league & not necessarily the individuals results though that is what we are focussing on for this change. The issue is for part completion & need an end date. So slipping a month or two is not an issue. Adjournments or adjudications. Corrections of error...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

Quite OK on chess results server it is just you need to convince Council & league officials to input onto the system. If monthly updates are quick, easy & cheap then do it. Quite irrelevant for many players. Annual was fine. Not sure that bi-annual adds anything. I suspect there may need to be more ...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

Alex that may be the case but did the ECF give those LMSs already being used a chance to tender for the national system? My main gripe is that I cannot see the benefits of a monthly production of grading results against the admission involved in collecting them. Perhaps those juniors have time on th...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

There was a suggestion that the league management software was going to be free. But not clear what it was & left leagues with little choice. Plenty of LMS available - FAs had a great one. Nothing wrong with John Upham or other systems. But I see little need for a monthly update or get the support t...

Re: SCCU/London Club Championships

Is this clashing with National County Finals (100th)? My club will likely enter on the basis of support Adam given in our area in 2018. A shame not on here earlier as we have just played our last fixture of 2018 & on timing of this will be last fixtures in 2019. Roger your team in 4NCL were about 18...

Re: How many casual players?

That may have been the viewing figures. I was a casual player at one time. Played once a year against an uncle on boxing day in the 70s. He died a few years back. I have the odd casual game v the computer on our chess club website. Whether this encourages the visitor or not is a question worth posin...

Re: Prize Money is Out of Control

To Alex & others organising the London Chess Classic on 13/12 the sponsors wife introduced herself to the U1750s top boards with their vision in supporting chess in this country. Her son was sitting next to me. That is not something you get everyday & was appreciated. Playing chess at the same time ...
