Re: Chess history trivia

Perhaps drawn games replayed because the tournament was in Monte Carlo. Beats turn of a card or spin of the wheel.
Maybe something to bring into league chess?

Re: Media comments on chess

Perhaps his cricket ramblings are affected by this type of smoke.

Welcome to a hazy Warner Park, where local bushfires mean there’s a strong smell of smoke in the air.

Re: Pirc defence

Whilst Pirc is not played often at the top level, black is OK! at the level of those replying to this thread. I use it about twenty percent as opposed to eighty percent for the Sicilian. Sometimes I forget who I want to avoid playing it against. And I have lots more gaps in why I play certain openin...

Re: World Teams 2019

The comments from top forum chess players have been spot on. I cannot fathom why any of the England players or management would want to disclose any thought processes until after the tournament is over. Why reveal anything to the opposition? Not in our interests. They are in a good position & let's ...

Re: County Chess: ECF Policy of Fines

The fines are not picking up amounts owed to players affected by defaults. I'm still more than 60 quid out of pocket on last years Minor Counties Q/Final because opposition did not bother to communicate to us in the early hours that one of their players were not picked up. Watching cows not move in ...

Re: The ECF Academy tender

Mike. Andrew Martin (Head of the ECF Academy) thinks it is a terrible deal for the applicant as it stands so the offer ought to change. My opinion but all the others here seem to be the same. I think ECF could do better. Kevin & others have made good points. I have enough in the day job in the colla...

Re: The ECF Academy tender

It is terrible that ECF have attempted to specify this for all the reasons above & a lot more. Yes those first contract agreements were emptying & disposal of dustbins. That may be awful with Brexit...…... I thought they had been progressive. Why not speak to those that organise English Juniors best...

Re: Chess & Bridge Withdraw Ray Keene's Book from Sale

Ray ought to donate a dozen of this book to the Kingston library service if he wants us to read it. Set the highest Council Tax in the UK. Get real. Same as for papers - free in the morning & evening. Many cafes offer free papers.

Re: Division Three South 2018-19

CSC1 are looking at knocking Surbiton off top spot in round 7 which will put us in an excellent position.
We are also looking at getting CSC2 & also in Four CSC3 out to play. April is not far away!

Re: Drunken Knights

Sad news for their members & their opponents. Whether the Plough will survive is another matter. It must be difficult to find central London venues at the prices of previous hires.

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system

So is ECF's intention is to increase volatility by increasing frequency of lists. Make Juniors & players happy. Let us know what goes up may come down. With hitting the Top 200 in this country that will be hit by any Fide - ECF joint issues? Will juniors & adults get upset if they drop points? Will ...

Re: Readiness for a tournament

My advice is to ensure you get rest from work. No preparation other than to get to venue early & take a walk to get circulation going. At the board slow down & think problems through. I won my first tournament in 13 years a few months ago & then close to a prize at London Classic. That is 8/9 until ...

Thanks for this. And best wishes for your involvement in the GCT. Nice too for the Ivory Coast.
