Do we in fact know that it is his to lose?
Yes, at least in part. There are three individuals who own the property of whom Mike is one.

Re: ECF elections 2016

For the record, in an "ECF Elections 2016" thread, my view of events, included in Sean Hewitt's post of 10:22 , around his threat to disqualify me at Crawley and the subsequent discussion is very different from his . i think some of his comments may be libelous and are untrue. Then sue us. I stand ...

Re: ECF elections 2016, Voting Power

Which bit of "It was announced after Round 2, and published at the venue" did you not understand? The two prize winners and that there were only two prize winners was not announced on e2e4 website until August. You aren't denying this surely? The site was last updated 5th June 2014 according to the...

Re: ECF elections 2016, Voting Power

Not announcing the winners and their prize money until several months had elapsed is indicative of a desire both to cut the prize fund and not suffer the corresponding reputation damage. Which bit of "It was announced after Round 2, and published at the venue" did you not understand? Perhaps you'll...

Re: ECF elections 2016, Voting Power

Apologies for the delayed response. Been busy paying out a bundle of prizes from Crawley. We had 12 entries. We took £510 in entry fees. We paid out £750 in prize money. 1 in 6 entrants received a prize. That's a risk taken by tournament organisers. Au contraire Prizes may be amended subject to numb...

e2e4 Crawley Congress : 26-29 Aug 2016

130 players took part in the first e2e4 Crawley Congress at the Arora Hotel. As usual, all women played for free. We were delighted to add a number of additional prizes, swelling the total amount paid out to £2750. Well done to all who played. Open Open Name Flags Score Fed. M/F Rating TPR W-We Priz...

Re: ECF elections 2016, Voting Power

Why then did you not convey this fact to my fellow non-winner of third prize? As soon as he raised it with me, I did. Until then, I had no idea that he had any expectation of a prize (obviously). Unlike e2e4's normal practice, there was no announcement of Senior prize winners until the ECF cajoled ...

Re: Abolish Game Fee!

I've just referred to the ECF exemptions page and note a change in the treatment of FIDE rated events effective from 31st August 2016. Something of which I previously wasn't aware (or had forgotten): http://www.englishchess.org.uk/membership/game-fee-and-exemptions/ (1) FIDE-rated standard-play eve...

Re: ECF elections 2016, Voting Power

Are you saying that you would refuse an entry from me at one of your events? The position has not changed since I confirmed that to be the case on this very forum. Do you really want the issue of the disappearing prize fund at the 2014 English Seniors to be brought back into the the public domain? ...

Re: ECF elections 2016, Voting Power

After a very unhappy, disqualification threat related incident , at the e2e4 congress in Crawley last weekend, I have begun to question the voting power of tournaments in ECF elections. I am an ardent supporter of one member, one vote and brought proposals to Council a couple of years ago to that e...

Re: ECF Yearbook

I think, before we answer that, we need to ask a more fundamental question: what is the Yearbook for ? Having read more than one (I assume?) how would you summarise the content? Let us, for arguments sake, say that you did not have access to the Interweb thingy or FaceTube, Twatter, YouBook etc. an...

Re: New Grading List

An interesting inference. In reality, comparing standard play over the last 10 years ago Year Half games Active Players Players published 2006 201539 13089 10383 2011 206558 12404 10105 2016 212562 12167 11017 So number of graded games played - UP Number of graded players - UP Average number of gam...

A reduction in Standard play and an increase in Rapidplay. The increase in Rapidplay being mostly driven by an increase in Junior numbers where universal membership does not apply.
