Re: Finance Council Meeting

The ECF will be enouraging payment by credit card, having selected cvent as its supplier. Details to follow, but you do get £1 off paying online So £17 by online payment using a credit card? Do you mean credit card? Or do you mean debit card? Or do you mean both? I think it's either, as both woul...

Re: Junior Concessions

The main issue for most of the junior organisations were new players - otherwise they said that they would be promoting ECF membership to their participants. Assuming they still do promote ECF membership, then the 1000+ juniors who play in junior only events are likely to become members, providing ...

Re: Junior Concessions

The new rate gives an increased responsibility to junior organisers to promote ECF junior membership. That is something I will be doing once the on line facility is available. Someone at the meeting suggested that, with the higher rate of game fee events would not promote membership and would go un...

Re: Finance Council Meeting

Fair point and of course universal membership would only have to be paid once and would bring all events and players under the same umbrella, even the tiny Harrogate league. I'm in favour of that but there's a lot of administrative hurdles added to the fact that I cannot endorse the ECF in its curr...

Re: Finance Council Meeting

The rest of the country doesn't have a lot of patience with the attitudes expressed by Yorkshire players and organisers. We regard their attitude as either an opinion that there shouldn't be a national chess body, or that if there is, then someone else should pay for it. The Yorkshire league IS gam...

Re: Finance Council Meeting

Going back on topic I'm curious as to how the ECF intends to sell the new membership proposals to those it expects to join up. I can say with confidence that Yorkshire will almost certainly reject them. So can I, because the Yorkshire delegate said as much at the Council meeting. Indeed he did. I t...

Re: Junior Concessions

I think that allowing off the hoof amendments at council meeting is a flawed practice. The proposal to reduce game fee for juniors by 75% was made without notice and did not allow for 1) Delegates to consult the players they represent 2) The consequential effects on the budgeted income to be underst...

Re: Finance Council Meeting

Any criticism of the chairing of the meeting would be completely unfounded. Mike Gunn did an excellent job, as those who were there will attest I am sure. Criticism from those who were not there is just plain daft. Council changed a number of the financials in relation to income. I didn't agree with...

Re: Finance Council Meeting

Perhaps the weirdest thing is that the meeting forgot to hold the BCF EGM. I only hope it was nothing important :-)

Re: Finance Council Meeting

The principal changes were the quartering of the proposed Game Fees for juniors and the deletion of the 85% rule. You might want to explain that in more detail. This is what was passed Paragraph 4.6 of the Game Fee Bye Laws are were amended in October 2011 to state: The payment of Game Fee is hereb...

Re: 2012 National Stages

This leads me on to another two connected questions: (1) Are the teams too big? (2) Are the section boundaries too tight? In my opinion, the answers are yes and yes. When I was the MCCU county controller and the grading changes were implemented I asked the captains if they wanted to go for the SCCU...
