Re: Membership renewal by PayPal

I have been advised by the office today that the PayPal charge to process my membership fee is going to be £1.12 and that if 100 people followed suit the cost to the ECF would be 100 x £1.12 = £112. I pointed out the folly of discounting membership renewal via the office last year. One to one re...

I know of at least one application.

Re: Barrier To Entry

it would be great to have more tournaments for beginners, maybe U.60. The problem with that is that you are likely to get a lot of ungraded players and there will always be a few medium-strength ungraded players turning up simply for the prize money, which spoils things for the genuine beginners. T...

Re: ECF Accounting

Can you not play " pass the parcel" as regards VAT? So the ECF receives £ 15,600 from Darwin and issues Darwin a VAT invoice. Darwin then can offset this against their VAT bill. The ECF passes on the full £ 15,600 to De Mooi's company, assuming it to be registered for VAT. The ECF doesn't then ha...

Re: ECF Accounting

I have obtained details of an invoice dated 7 April 2011, from CJ de Mooi, addressed to the ECF office at Battle. The rubric reads blandly “British Championship Sponsorship Fund” and the invoice is in the sum of £12,600. I would emphasise that this is an invoice from CJ, to the Egregious Feder...

Re: ECF Vacancies

Now that the deadline for applications for the position of IRO has passed, any guess as to when we might see the white smoke?

Re: ECF Accounting

I look forward with interest to SGs detailed analysis of this hard-hitting document. The April meeting has suddenly become more attractive than usual! Can someone kindly remind this place when and where it will be? It's London (somewhere, I haven't seen where yet) on 14th April. I believe the Direc...

Re: e2e4 Amersham Congress : 18-20 May 2012

I see the e2e4 calendar has the 2013 event listed. Hope that booking will be OK, along with any other events at Sunningdale. It is. The problem was the member of staff with whom we booked May 2012, Aug 2012 and May 2013 left the company without completing the bookings at the hotel end. By the time ...

Re: e2e4 Dublin International: April 5-9

The Masters is looking like an incredibly strong event. For an up to date list of entries http://www.e2e4.org.uk/entrants_dublin.htm The Irish players always enter events very late in the day so we can expect the Major and Challengers to fill up too. It's not too late to enter what is sure to be an ...

Re: What is a congress?

I made the point to Alex H on Friday (in jest I hasten to add) that I could have made entry to e2e4 events open to members of e2e4 chess club only and then be charged fees for my congresses as internal club events. I could have offered said membership for free, or for a nominal £1. Of course, we di...

I think alot of adult players might be delighted to hear that there may be fewer juniors in attendance.

Re: ECF Vacancies

Thanks for that Roger. Perhaps the decision to stick it all in Home when the reorganisation occurred was not properly thought through. However, we have a chance to correct that now.
