Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

Certainly any allegations would have to involve more than just a one off game, I agree that cannot be correct, you would need to show a consistent pattern and then prove its as a result of cheating. What would prompt an investigation though? Would every game be scrutinised, or only those from tourn...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

1. Develop a system to identify when possible cheating may be occurring using matching moves. Be cautious with this. A number of players would find this objectionable. So you play a good game beating a higher rated player, particularly one that you had prepared some analysis for and find yourself a...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

I mentioned a while ago about a proposal for engine-matching move cheating allegations and that the process should look something like this: 1. Develop a system to identify when possible cheating may be occurring using matching moves. 2. Using whatever criteria has been decided on one would then pro...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

I'm puzzled. Chess.com has no fewer than 21 games where the position after 10...Bd7 has been reached before. The novelty would appear to be 11.Qd1 but this is not the top choice of any computer engine I have access to. I wouldn't claim any familiarity with obscure Winawer variations. But in a posit...

I've a nasty suspicion you've all turned off your internet and gone out and done something less boring instead.
Great technique by Arkell, really impressive.

Re: 2013 British Chess Championships (Torquay)

I wonder how low you have to be rated in order for Bogdan to try play for a win with Black? http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1712355 Artyom Timofeev is rated 2610. Did Timofeev turn down earlier draw offers I wonder? Bogdan is a great player with a deep understanding of the game. It's j...

Re: 2013 British Chess Championships (Torquay)

Wells will probably play 8...b5 next, that's critical, at least I assume he'll play this before he loses on time.

Re: 2013 British Chess Championships (Torquay)

ah, a result in Bogdan's game, and the one I/we all predicted. All his Black games will be drawn unless he plays anyone v strong and determined, which will likely not happen unless he keeps winning with White. Someone v weak but determined might also break the streak?! Or seriously underrated. If I...

Re: 2013 British Chess Championships (Torquay)

Janouby has blundered with 27...Kg7 and now he's lost. 27...Bd7 28 Qxd7 Rf4 is a draw. Shame thought he was almost winning there.

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

Matching computer moves is an indication that moves were generated with the use of a computer engines. It's not proof of cheating in the absence of other evidence and in particular in the presence of evidence to the contrary such as simple observation in an OTB tournament. The reasonable doubt is t...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

More from Ken Regan here http://rjlipton.wordpress.com/2013/07/27/thirteen-sigma/ Quite an astonishing read. Still looks like early stages in their work but I was particular fascinated by his seeming discovery that an entire tournament was rigged (The Don Cup 2010 International was held three years...

Re: WHO'S GOING TO TORQUAY?

My guess would be the organisers said he didn't have to play the last round at Pardubice so he could get a coach across Europe and then get a free lift to Torquay. Still saves a good bit of money. The Backpackers in Torquay has been described by said person as "modest accommodation" and this is conf...

Re: WHO'S GOING TO TORQUAY?

One more GM to watch in the afternoons, Simon Williams entered today! Not only Simon Williams, but young Yang-Fan too. That’s thirteen GMs and eleven IMs. Across-the-board there’s 103 entries for the main event. Overall figures have climbed to a record 1079. And going higher - in a normal year ...
