Re: Paris Final: Disappointing Finish

I have a lot of sympathy for the view that agreeing a draw prematurely is tantamount to match-fixing. In football, when Austria contrived a 0-0 draw with Germany so that they could both go through in a World Cup Group game many years ago now there was absolute outrage and the rules were changed. Ult...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

I'm finding it hard to understand why this saga is not over but it clearly isn't. Ivanov was given the green light by the organisers to carry on and changed his shoes for round 8. He was Black on Board 12 against FM Kralevski and won a highly interesting game with what looks like superb technique. h...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

If you scroll right to the bottom of that article ChessBase do show you how you can wiggle your foot to transmit the moves. Doesn't look an easy thing to do but one assumes Ivanov must have practised a lot beforehand.

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

Just seen an alleged scanned copy of Ivanov's scoresheet against GM Maxim Dlugy. Ivanov as you'll recall was Black and as Geoff says above appeared to resign in a drawn position. Ivanov did not record any moves and it says in Bulgarian "White: The Machine Black: Some Clown". Bizarre. Not quite righ...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

It's worth just pasting up Dlugy's full posting just to see what a farce this has become: Max Dlugy "Just finished off an infamous chess player FM Borislav Ivanov without making a move! He absolutely refused to take off his shoes during a search, which according to tournament regulations at Blagoevg...

Re: Nominations for the elections at the ECF AGM

Is there comfort in the probability that even if Mr Paulson is elected, very little of what he promises is likely to happen? This phrase assumed me provide strong leadership of the ECF so as to encourage estranged actors in the UK chess world to return to its bosom. The ex-President of the ECF has ...

Some info on the Garrick club:- http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2049514/UKs-highest-female-judge-blasts-Garrick-Club-holding-women-back.html A few sections from the Garrick's web site. Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

There's a tournament coming up in Blagoevgrad and a certain someone wants to play in it. The forum has discussed before and the concensus seemed to be to let him and then prove he's cheating. The source of the letter, written to the ECU President I haven't verified but it would seem extremely plausi...

Re: Jack Rudd's candidacy for NED: Q&A thread

Neville to be fair to Sean you kind of forced Jack to answer your PM publicly by asking why he hadn't replied to it on the forum. Transparency seems to be a key issue in this election. In addition, I can't understand why the question should have been asked at all. Any ECF official could potentially ...

Re: Jack Rudd's candidacy for NED: Q&A thread

I like Jack as a person and as an arbiter. However, I feel he is doing neither himself nor his health any good in continuing in the role of NED. Isn't Jack's health his own concern really? [/quote] I agree with Peter, I don't see the relevance of the health issue. Jack's condition is his own concer...
