Re: Attention Congress Players

Thus endeth John Hickman's run of special prizes at the Guernsey International Chess Festival My comment was meant as a joke on the concept of plagarism by copying a comment that had already been made. I'm disappointed that it has been taken as a personal attack and/or caused offence, and I apologi...

Re: The Yorkshire problem

The support for the ECF seems to be at odds with the signature "bring back the BCF" ?

Re: Tromso World Cup 2013

Don't wish to divert from the sledging of arbiters (rapidly approaching the popularity of traffic wardens, with whom they have things in common) but what that would really enliven this thread is a win by Adreikin today. Go on Dimitri! (Did anyone catch Nigel playing word games with Dirk, yesterday,...

Re: Tromso World Cup 2013

Yes forgot about that. He said most arbiters weren't up to the job and spent most of the time sleeping during play.

Re: Tromso World Cup 2013

He was on for about an hour and there was some fascinating stuff. From what I can remember he talked about: - the plusses and minuses of age in chess; - that the Elo system should be unified ie rapid, blitz and classical grades should be blended into one rating, though the rapid and blitz graded gam...

Re: Paris Grand Prix 2013

A la recherche du temps perdu seems an apt phrase at this point. Nicely designed it may be but that church looks like the sort of venue the e2e4 events were designed to get away from and one which most club players are all too familiar with. I should imagine the world's elite will be hoping the plac...

Re: The Latest GM/IM Norm Scam

"Playing two games against an opponent, one as White, one as Black simultaneously might overload the requirements needed for your would-be cheater?" but then the weaker player can force a 1-1 draw... But might it stand out that in one game the weaker player sacrifices his queen, two rooks and a kni...

Re: The Latest GM/IM Norm Scam

Just an idea for a low tech solution. Playing two games against an opponent, one as White, one as Black simultaneously might overload the requirements needed for your would-be cheater?

I agree that Roger's suggestion is a useful and much needed clarification.

Re: The Latest GM/IM Norm Scam

I can only presume Chris Rice has not read the Laws of Chess. This is the text of what it will probably say from 1 July 2014. 12.3 a. During play the players are forbidden to make use of any notes, sources of information or advice, or analyse the game on another chessboard. The current Laws are har...

Re: The Latest GM/IM Norm Scam

I think Geoff established this thread on tournament rigging/match fixing to seperate it from the 'Chess Player Strip Searched' thread under the International section which is focused on computer cheating. The other thread had come close to the conclusion that Kotainy was using a DroidFish app in com...

Re: The Latest GM/IM Norm Scam

Kramnik allowed mate in 1 in a playable position. Kasparov resigned in a game against The Machine and then complained that there was cheating. I don't see how FIDE can act on the examples given above by strong players. I was having dinner with Ulf Andersson and Jan Timman. Ulf had just played Karpo...

Re: The Latest GM/IM Norm Scam

HI I have 3 OTB games all dropping a piece on d4 in the exact same position. rnb2rk1/1p2bppp/pq1ppn2/6B1/3NPP2/2NB4/PPP3PP/R2Q1RK1 w - - 0 10 Black has just played Qb6. White perhaps was thinking the d4 Knight was held tactically with e5 and Bxh7+ not noticing, whilst the pawn was on f2, that Qxd4 ...

Re: Tromso World Cup 2013

Emil Sutovsky the ACP President will be contacting FIDE to propose that in rapid/blitz events (especially where there are playoffs) where the round times are not certain that the zero tolerance rule shouldn't apply. That seems sensible as the Peruvian player apparently got confused between the start...
