Re: 2013 British Chess Championships (Torquay)

Janouby has blundered with 27...Kg7 and now he's lost. 27...Bd7 28 Qxd7 Rf4 is a draw. Shame thought he was almost winning there.

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

Matching computer moves is an indication that moves were generated with the use of a computer engines. It's not proof of cheating in the absence of other evidence and in particular in the presence of evidence to the contrary such as simple observation in an OTB tournament. The reasonable doubt is t...

the idea to catch the cheats will be to get the engine matching statistical probability so high that there is no other explanation then that the player must be cheating Matching computer moves is an indication that moves were generated with the use of a computer engines. Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

More from Ken Regan here http://rjlipton.wordpress.com/2013/07/27/thirteen-sigma/ Quite an astonishing read. Still looks like early stages in their work but I was particular fascinated by his seeming discovery that an entire tournament was rigged (The Don Cup 2010 International was held three years...

Re: WHO'S GOING TO TORQUAY?

My guess would be the organisers said he didn't have to play the last round at Pardubice so he could get a coach across Europe and then get a free lift to Torquay. Still saves a good bit of money. The Backpackers in Torquay has been described by said person as "modest accommodation" and this is conf...

Re: WHO'S GOING TO TORQUAY?

One more GM to watch in the afternoons, Simon Williams entered today! Not only Simon Williams, but young Yang-Fan too. That’s thirteen GMs and eleven IMs. Across-the-board there’s 103 entries for the main event. Overall figures have climbed to a record 1079. And going higher - in a normal year ...

ACP Cup Riga 12-15 September 2013

I was quite surprised at the format of this tournament ie a knockout. Personally I like them but they have been heavily criticised in the past so it was interesting to see that its the chess professionals themselves choosing it. Here's the press release from the ACP web site: "The ACP, in cooperatio...

I don't think they did Justin but I've rectified that now and asked them for some anecdotes.

Daniel Feinstein

I'm told by friends that this guy was a chess player a long time ago although I didn't know him. He was a legend in the Arsenal stands and he certainly fits the description of a chess player judging by the links below. Does anyone remember him? http://www.thecnj.com/islington/2009/090409/inews090409...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

Hmm I wonder whether he entered and once the organisers realised who he was they took him off the list? The Susan Polgar site mentioned by Sean appears to be the only source of the story and perhaps she set up a Google alert or something similar as there are no other details. The link that she gives...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

Yes not really satisfactory. Didn't turn up so guilty as charged. Has Ivanov got just a four month ban, a two year ban, a two year four month ban or is he banned for life till he turns up for a test? Or will they let him play as long as he doesn't start mocking chess players on TV? Presumably he's j...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

There is also a massive cost element, I don't suppose airport standard security systems come cheap and is perhaps out of reach of the organisers of a lot of the tournaments Ivanov plays in. If Ivanov is cheating then his motive for doing so will be significant. Money, fame, notoriety, Elo points etc...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

So subject to enforcing 13.4 and making it clear that mobile phones stay switched off for the entire duration of the game even when outside the playing area, FIDE should already have the powers it needs against obvious cheating methods. What it struggles with is how to detect conspiracy cheating, s...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

I fully accept that he may be someone who has made a sudden leap in strength, but what would you do if you found yourself in his position? I would most likely look for another hobby. According to the latest statement from the Bulgarian chess federation, they now consider the case closed after Ivano...
