Re: Candidate Master

Thanks Roger. I wondered what the take up rate for the CM title was, at least as it relates to GB & Ireland. Looking at the players rated 2200+ on the FIDE site (both active and inactive) we get the following figures. The first figure is those that have actually claimed the title and the second is t...

Re: Candidate Master

I only claimed the CM title as I realised that I wasn't going to get any higher. I might not have done if it had been on the way up! Achieving a FIDE rating of 2200+ is no mean achievement so congratulations to you Kevin and all those who hold this title. After stating this earlier I thought i migh...

Re: Best Disputes

The FIDE rules applying to Swisses and Team competitions are inconsistent and here's an example which hopefully just meets the criteria of a dispute. In 2012 Bragi Thorfinnsson (Iceland) was on for a GM norm coming into the last round at the Reykjavik Open. But he needed to play someone of a minumum...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

It looks like 1984 all over again as Borislav Ivanov seems to have had his name removed from even the starting lists on most chess web sites for the Veliko Tarnovo tournament in Bulgaria. However, he did play and here is some proof from the DB site with his win against Romabaldoni. http://chess-db.c...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

On the ACP site from a Bulgarian GM: Dear all, Due to the increased level of fraud and suspicions of cheating of lately in chess. I would like to to present you an idea of how to deal with the problem. The idea for anti-cheating commission is fairly simple. You know that in all sports there are is t...

Re: Chess Player Strip Searched

Seems fate has taken a hand with Borislav Ivanov. He was participating in a Bulgarian tournament, Veliko Tarnovo open and as usual winning it easily. Then his opponents hit on the idea that if he received three defaults he wouldn't win a prize. So IM Sashov Nikolov and GM Drentchev refused to play h...

Re: Wood Green

Bizarre. Ivanchuk's not playing today, he's in the bar with Fiona from Cheddleton following the live games on a laptop.

Re: Wood Green

Just spoke to Matthew Sadler in the hotel foyer. Great to meet him again as I haven't seen him for many years. He's playing for Guildford 1 this weekend, looks like Guildford don't intend to gift Wood Green 1 the title.

Re: Move rates and League structure

As for your comment that we all need to be captains and active contributors to the 4NCL regime before we are deemed `suitable` to merit an opinion....or `allowed` to comment..?? Outside of this unofficial forum, there isn't any formal mechanism for players to express views in public directly to the...

Posted a couple of days ago on the ACP web site by Emil Sutovsky the President of the Asscoiation of Chess Professionals: "FIDE supports anti-cheating committee Date: 29 April 2013 Author: Sutovsky, Emil Dear friends, I am happy to inform you, that FIDE has supported the idea to establish the specia...

Re: Wood Green

Building on what Jonathan has just said there's nothing specific naturally but from my experience when it's male players ELO>2350 its routine for them to want money to play. So the more of those players you have the more 'professional' team you are I guess.

Re: Wood Green

Something like limiting total squad sizes does seem rather sane. (Mind you even that might just about have an impact - Sheffield D used 23 players just to run a team of 8 without defaults in the Yorkshire league last season....). White rose do also have two teams who share the odd player at times, ...

Re: Wood Green

One way around all this is to have fixed squad sizes For example for each team you have in the league you are only allowed to register 16 players (negotiable), you can still have the single wildcard at the weekend Most teams have 4/5 players who turn up at every weekend, therefore getting 3 from 10...
