Re: Resigning in a Winning Position

Round 10 of the women's GP in Skolkovo featured Cramling - Kosteniuk. Not a winning position but Pia Cramling would have been equal if she had spotted 35 b4 instead of resigning believing she had lost a piece.

Team names and grades of players were available before the first round, but not player names. I thought I was playing someone graded about 110. I discovered after the game...

Re: World Cup Knockout 2019

Rest day tomorrow. Emil Sutovsky speaking for FIDE on FB said " tomorrow there are no games. This year we introduced an extra rest day. The event is too exhausting - and we found it fair"

Daniil Dubov replied "The problem is that an extra rest day in Khanty Mansiysk feels like an additional torture"

Sorry, Shaun, I shall be watching your games and do expect to see a good fight. Interesting game. Shaun played for a kingside attack with 14 ...

Re: ECU General Assembly Resolution on Boycotts

Interesting article on BBC's website Thousands of Iranians support call for Iran world sport ban . Apparently many Iranians, sick and tired of the state interference in sports want their own country banned from competitions. Although chess isn't specifically mentioned it's easy to see that the same ...

Re: British Championship Congress 2020

From the September 2019 ECF newsletter: British Championships 2020 Director of Home Chess Adrian Elwin writes - At the beginning of June, the British Championship management team had almost completed negotiations at an excellent new venue, a conference centre in Southport. In July, the team were con...

Re: Champions Showdown - Kasparov playing Sept 2nd - 5th

Having not played this time control before I kept staring at the clock waiting for it to move rather than looking at the position. Does it depend on the make of clock? I had an idea that DGTs add the delay. So if you have five seconds left with ten second delay, it jumps to fifteen to show the time...
