Interesting reported comment from Dubov

ChesscomNews tweet
Dani Dubov  What a hero! I do hope it's a fair translation. My estimation of him just went through the roof!
You can add that he won the rapid three days after his grandfather died.

Dvorkovich has also appointed four Continental assistants, two of which are Kramnik & Anand. Haven't got a clue what their job is though.

Final standings.

It was nice to see that the Polish PM, Mateusz Morawiecki, went out of his way to congratulate Duda on his fine performance.

Posted up on the wall at the venue. Re: Repercussions / Fallout from FIDE Elections?

Fair point from Nigel: Congrats to the Iranian stars Sara Khadem (2nd place) and Alireza Firouzja (6th) on their great performances in the King Salman World Rapid Chess Ch. Had the "money above dignity" Makro administration been elected, it is highly unlikely that they could have participated.

Re: 2018 FIDE Rapid & Blitz World Championships

Report on the final day of the rapid. "It was also revealed today that Dubov had been part of Carlsen's team for preparing for the 2018 world championship match. "I was in his team, so probably he gave me too many lessons!" Dubov said." There is also a really nice game showing how Iranian rising st...

Peter Svidler: "Judging by the amount of love my moment of admiration for Dmitry's combination is getting, I should be getting mated, spectacularly, in the center of the board more often. Seriously though - that final position is fabulous, have a look if you haven't yet."

Re: 2018 FIDE Rapid & Blitz World Championships

Carlsen finishes the day half off the lead so all to play for on day 3. Imagine how well he might do if he wasn't "tired and bored"...... Nigel Short : It is the sign of a truly great player when he can play like total crap (by his lofty standards) and still be only half a point off the lead, with ...

Re: 2018 FIDE Rapid & Blitz World Championships

Carlsen finishes the day half off the lead so all to play for on day 3. Which included another couple of Magnus getting something out of absolutely nothing victories. The joint leaders at the moment on 7½/10 are Nepomniachtchi, Ian (2771), Andreikin, Dmitry (2725), Wang, Hao (2782), Yu, Yangyi (275...

Re: 2018 FIDE Rapid & Blitz World Championships

After Day 1 of the Open, a 15 year old Iranian, Firouzja (2412) leads with Nepomniachtchi (RUS 2771) and Andreikin (RUS 2725) on 4.5/5, Carlsen recovered from his poor start and is on 3/5. Gawain had a difficult day and is on 2/5. The Women's section is only 12 games not 15 so they only played four ...

Re: 2018 FIDE Rapid & Blitz World Championships

Hmm Carlsen 0/2, kind of begs the question as to what might have happened if they had decided to play the tie breakers before the Classical games in the World Championship match? Though I doubt whether he would have started 1 e4 e5 2 Qh5 against Caruana.
