Re: FIDE's 400pt rule

Tweeted from Chess 24 "I played my last game of chess already", says Igor Rausis, after what seems to have been an ignominious end to his career: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D_SC3-bXkAAoOTi?format=jpg&name=900x900 However, one surely has to question the legality of having a camera installed in the b...

Re: FIDE's 400pt rule

The story is here: https://chess24.com/en/read/news/gm-igors-rausis-allegedly-caught-cheating I've also been following for a while and players have been extremely skeptical of his results. As has been pointed out it's tough for even a GM to consistently beat these 2200/2300 players. Is there any ot...

2019 World Open Philadelphia

The 2019 tournament ended with an Armageddon between Xiong & Le Quang Liem. Its a very tense game with plenty going on in the background.

Re: FIDE's 400pt rule

Emil Sutovsky has created a number of posts on the matter and commented on others. The following comment he made on FB sums up what he thinks: "I have a very clear understanding on this one. Rating should reflect a player's strength. 400-rule was a good invention, but it can not be abused in such a ...

Re: FIDE's 400pt rule

FIDE's solution, if they need one, would be to raise the 400 point rule to a 500 or 600 point one. That might be at the risk of encouraging defaults by players unwilling to put their ratings at risk for a reward even less than they get at the moment. Another idea is to cap the number of players you...

FIDE's 400pt rule

There has been a story rumbling around for a while now regarding how Czech player, Igor Rausis, has been hacking the system. Basically playing players rated way below 400 points below him (usually between 1400-2100 Elo) but for calculation purposes, however low their grade is, its counted as only 40...

Re: No Comment?

Looking at the current entrants wouldn't this be a good year for Danny to win it rather than commentating on it?

Re: Media comments on chess

I try to believe 3 impossible things before breakfast, When they agreed to Zukhar sitting at the back of he hall, I asked Petra, 'But won't he still be able to affect Viktor?' She responded, 'oh no. The force weakens the further away you are. Who could have known she knew the Inverse Square Law?' O...

Jiu Jitsu Chess

I'm guessing most of us wouldn't be up to this version of the game which is very courteous and violent! The board was set up correctly, king and queen on their correct squares and I didn't see any illegal moves. The game was a Scandinavian just as it was in the Harry Potter film The Philosopher's St...

Re: Hastings Congress seeking sponsor

Oh dear well this isn't going to help then. Paul Smith was the Chairman of the organising committee and has just been jailed for two years. I would point out there is no suggestion he took any money from the tournament. Story here.

1903 "A Chess Dispute"

The earliest known chess film from 1903, a one-minute silent black and white comedy by British film pioneer Robert W. Paul. Two gentlemen play chess, and while one looks away, the other moves two pieces at once, and that’s where the dispute begins.
