Re: A game from last night

I didn't name him because I thought it rude to put someone else's name up on the internet. But if you search for my rating card on the Welsh Chess Union website then you can easily work it out. I like your idea of Nh2 in this position after his Nd7 r1bqk2r/pp1nppbp/2np2p1/2p5/4P3/3P1NPP/PPP2PB1/RNBQ...

I think you mean the Dewi Jones Ball Sack Variation.

Re: A game from last night

I was wondering whether he was laboring under that missaprehention too Roger. There were a few times I expected him to castle long, none of the moves he made in place of doing so appeared to be required urgently enough to excuse not doing so.

A game from last night

Well Geoff Chandler said he wanted to see some games from around the leagues, so here's one - which shows exactly why they are not considered suitable for a wider audience! I don't really have anyone to help me analyse my games, so I thought I might do so on here in the hope that you might throw in ...

Re: Suitable defence for average club player against 1. d4?

I agree, that for players below say 140, opening preparation is overrated. For a couple of years I played 1.a3 and 2.b4 with white and 1.. a6 and 2.. b5 with black and got virtually the same results as when I played normal openings. ( around 50%) Agreed. And even at the top level I think Tony Miles...

Draw by repetition

Bit of a newbie question I know, but proper knowledge of the rules might come in handy for half a point one day. I don't quite understand when to claim, or when my opponent can claim, under the three fold repetition rule. Obviously not a game below, but I thought I'd keep it simple to help me with t...

Thanks. That's what I get for trying to use my phone to browse the internet instead of a proper computer :D

Re: Chess Congresses home and abroad.

Dewi, is it true that Romanian and Welsh share the same linguistic roots? If so, how easy / hard was it for you to learn? I am running a tournament in Malta in May - http://xychess.net/tournaments - and there is always room for one more! No, not any more than that Romanian is basically modern Latin...

I just found this, after your suggestion pointed me the right way to google Roger

That should keep me busy for a while.

Merci.

Re: Chess Congresses home and abroad.

Thanks Roger. My grade is a Welsh one, so pretty much equivalent to FIDE. My question was more where do I find the organisers to ask? Is there a website with a calender similar to the WCU and ECF ones for international tournaments or for French ones say. The ICU website seems particularly difficult ...

Chess Congresses home and abroad.

I'd be interested in entering some congresses abroad, and coupling it with a holiday. I've played in the isle of man, and will probably go to Bunratty but I'd be particularly interested in playing in Romania or France both of where I can speak the language. The problem is that I'm a mere 1500 player...
