For the avoidence of doubt, I think it an admirable enterprise. It is chess players in general and their unwillingness to spend any money or be in any way creative with their hobby that I was taking the piss out of.

As I will never be at that level, I haven't read the paper. But it is the British Chess Championship and though the "E"CF do the organising, I do hope they are consulting the other national unions on a basis of equality about these proposed changes.

What is anybody doing paying for a venue? As long as you are not playing on a Friday or Saturday night surely every pub in the world that does not have Sky would give you a free room?
