Re: 5th Sinquefield Cup 2-12 August 2017

33 .. Nxf3 from Aronian is worth a look, he's on the way again hopefully... 40...Rxf3 wasn't so great though. I can understand in some ways why Aronian played this instead of 40...Bg2+, but it feels like he bottled out of the logical conclusion to the combination he started with 33...Nxf3. Fingers ...

He's a genius when he's on form. It'd be really good to see match with Carlsen I think but goodness knows.

Rf6 (^Rxh6) then meeting h5 with Rh6 followed by Rxh5 is really quite amusing :)
Yes indeed, to all of that.

Re: 2017 World Teams 16-27 June

Kosteniuk has to go through the indignity of having to take off her wrist watch during play Whoever in FIDE dreamed up the "no pens or watches" rule is suffering from a case of paranoia against common possessions. Ban the sophisticated ones by all means, but what's the problem with an old fashioned...

Re: is the Vienna game sound?

David Howell gave the g3 Vienna a whirl at Gibraltar against Matlakov a few days ago. Don't think it's an example that would tempt me to try it particularly.

Why could she possibly believe that the computer pairings should be altered to suit her wishes? Because she is World Champion? In any case, if it were shown th...

Re: Tradewise Gibraltar Masters 2017

Logic says that it is very unlikely for Hou Yifan to be paired against so many women, she clearly knew this and as the tournament went on she will have increasingly felt that something was not right. This will have been distracting for her in the games she played. By the end of the tournament she w...

Re: Tradewise Gibraltar Masters 2017

I'd like to think everyone is watching Hou Yifan's game (v. Ider). Absent a last minute blunder, it's heading for the anthologies. Hou's Immortal Indeed, the position after 45...Nf1 is quite startling. Ider can now win a pair of Rooks with double check. But he could more usefully resign instead! An...

Re: Now I've Seen Everything Dept - Scoresheets

It would probably make a fun challenge to try and reconstruct the game based only on the white moves - I know there are players out there who would take that sort of thing on. Cracker! My first thought too. Get on with it then. Great way to waste an evening I don't think it can be possible to arriv...
