Re: Chess Behind Bars

Would you prefer gentleman of the road, or hobo ? I honestly have no idea as to what you're allowed to say and what you're not. It will be different tomorrow anyway.. I suppose you could just try and avoid those awkward social situations where you just don't know whether to call people hobo, vagran...

Nice comment from Olimpiu G Urcan on twitter:
It is as if Caïssa is taking a long nap and left a club-level amateur in charge of the fate of the #FIDEWorldCup.

Re: Candidates Tournament in Berlin March 2018

"Over 23% of Germans play chess regularly" Or less than 24% of Germans play regularly, as we might prefer (probably much less than 24% ) Good place for a few Berlin endgames though  "regularly" includes all those who 'generally play chess least once a year' according to Agon's YouGov su...

Re: 2017 World Cup 2-27 September, Tbilisi

How is this remotely credible? It's reported that it was the Chief Arbiter who first took exception. Particularly with rapid play games to supervise, the arbiter to player ratio may well be higher than a conventional tournament. The arbiters assigned to the earlier games didn't raise any objections...

Re: 2017 World Cup 2-27 September, Tbilisi

2. When asked why Kovalyov hadn't been forfeited in previous rounds Azmai confirmed that the organisers/arbiters hadn't noticed Kovalyov's attire but then went on to add that Anand was too much of a gentleman to complain when he perhaps should have done How is this remotely credible? We are talking...

Re: 2017 World Cup 2-27 September, Tbilisi

If there's witnesses who can corroborate that, Azmai should be out. Racial abuse should mean you're out, I think that's straightforward. "should" - but this being FIDE... Wild speculation, but Kovalyov seemed to have the word "short" on his t-shirt, with some other words that aren't clear in the pi...

Ta. Long wait then. I'm sure it normally gives a countdown on Chess24, but I can't see it for some reason.
That's local time - the 2nd tie-break games have already started.
