Re: April Council meeting 2019

Not that I have a direct vote but I'm worryingly in two minds about the proposal. While I have a tremendous amount of respect for the Silver representatives who are a party to this proposal; I do also see the hand of those who are pursuing their own agenda against the board. Andrew, the fat woman h...

Re: Champions' Names

1966 U14 Robert Cecil Bellin (you'll read RS Bellin but not according to Gaige) Title shared with Robert Woodford. I feel bound to point this out having contributed to Woodford's success by allowing him to beat me in Round 1. Incidentally, the bulletin recorded Bellin as just R Bellin without any s...

"Being sure is not a concept fitting with statistics theory!"

That's true! I'm happy to bow to your statistical knowledge.
I think this point of view is overstated and can't be deduced from the evidence.

Unread posts

Bit of an oddity has happened to me. Each time I log on the unread posts remain the same. It includes one topic that I have read completely and which has no new posts. Any other new posts are not appearing in the unread list, though they do get highlighted in both the Board Index and the individual ...

Though personally I always preferred Michael Bentine's Square (actually cubic) World, which Michael F appears to be referencing.
Oh I was, but it wasn't as apposite as I thought - Age had muddled me and I was thinking that the presenter of that programme was also a Michael Crawford

Well I suppose it would have been an even bigger blunder if only one queen had been on the wrong colour.

Surely the County Championship qualification rules do not apply at the union stage anyway? (unless a union specifically adopts them).

It’s not actually as stupid as the ridicule would imply IMO.
I meant to tease, not to ridicule. If it gave offence to Steven then I apologise - it was not my intention.

Re: In addition to...

That means if I were first to be offered a draw I would invariably refuse. If I went on to win, well and good. If at a later stage in the game I found myself to be losing still well and good. I would offer a draw myself and lo and behold it is guaranteed!

There was slightly more at stake in the case of Dr Shipman!

Re: What are the safeguards ?

I think the voting register for ECF Council gives a cross reference between set of results and organisation submitting the results. It attempts to but I have to admit that the voting register remains something of a "dark art". One reason for the more detailed publication has been to give organisati...

Re: Vladimir Kramnik Announces Retirement

No, it should not be seen as a sad day!

He moves on to new pastures and makes clear he will still be with us. Rather, we should smile, wish him well and look forward to whatever he next turns to.

Re: 4 Missing knights

"Old" sets might have a King or Queen stamped on the Rooks and Knights. That was so you could keep track of which was the KR and KN as distinct from the QR and QN. That can be relevant to descriptive notation. Suppose you have Knights on d2 and g1 and the move is Nf3. That would be recorded as KN-B...

Michael >All of Morecambe's are! EXCELLENT. Are they then all available on a website? No not currently, but they are all regularly circulated to all club members. It currently stretches back about 8 years. I have to say that the original concept, as I understand it, was that it provided a local pre...
