Re: Chess.Com getting sued.

Speaking as someone who doesn't play online, this whole thing confuses me. I think we're all aware of someone [no need to identify him but he's not unfamiliar to members of this forum] whose FIDE ratings - standard, rapid and blitz - are all around the 2250 mark yet advertises himself as having a 3...

World U16 Olympiad Çorum, Turkey

First round today. No England team. Only money for the pros? No, teams also from Germany or Switzerland due to safety concerns. Iran has already withdrawn due to concerns about playing Israel. Speaking of which, they have had a remarkably swift 4-0 victory over Iraq. No moves actually played. Will ...

Re: Div 3 North 2019-20

There are a lot of names in yellow on the list considering the 4NCL said "Players registered as ENG, or not registered, must be ECF Gold or Platinum members (including juniors) at the time the registration list is submitted. This rule will be strictly enforced." Out of curiosity how do team captain...

If you want to search for a player by name or FIN then use this url. If you find who you are looking for then click on the name in the list in the usual way and you will get the old fashioned profile page.

Generally I am very pleased that the ECF have managed to get funding from the chess trust for a Development Officer
I think there is your answer.

Oh no! It looks like I've caught the aphorism bug from Carl!

Don't Understand Grading Calculation

Last season we had a foreign student join our club with a FIDE rating that equated to about 115. Playing quick games against him we decided that he was probably a bit stronger than that and placed him in our teams based on our estimates. At the end of the season his results were 8 wins against oppon...

Re: Council Papers are out

The Board's Report to the AGM says: Appointed a new Development Officer to work with the Board to grow chess at all levels across the country... Does anyone know anything about this, such as who has been appointed and when the appointment was made? There was talk a year or so ago of Tim Wall gettin...

It's one reason I don't like ny DoB being paraded about - I might get associated with them.
Presumably you keep a very ugly picture in your attic to foil attempts at guessing.

Re: Arbitration question

I am asking for the Fide ruling Others may be better informed, but I do not believe this is specifically a breach of any FIDE regulation. There are several reasons why you might not wish arbiters to use their phones while working. Which do you have in mind? There is a FIDE regulation, 12.8 Unless a...

Titania McGrath on Twitter:
Thank you @Hasbro for MS MONOPOLY. Woman need this kind of head start in order to help them to feel empowered.

Now we just need MS CHESS, where the Queen lounges about at the back of the board while the King runs around doing all the hard work for a change.

If either player has been coughing or sneezing into their hand throughout the game I think not shaking hands is reasonable.

I would be obliged if players could give me their preferences for a proposed new weekender tournament.
This is meaningless without time controls. Rating restrictions might also be relevant.

Yes amazing performance by Armaan Gogia http://chess-results.com/tnr463482.aspx?lan=1&art=9&fed=ENG&snr=53 Were it not for taking a half point bye in the first round he would be on track for an IM norm. I think it might still be theoretically possible but would involve exceeding the norm requiremen...

Re: Specification for ECF LMS API ?

How about using the format of that Excel file as one of the acceptable tournament report formats? I thought Swiss Manager had already been customised to produce an ECF compatible grading file output. That presumes the organiser had been bothered enough to ensure the ECF grading codes were present. ...
