Player in their first FIDE rated tournament scores 0.5/5 with Rp=1387 but no rating. Why?

According to the latest FIDE rating regulations : 6.3 In a Swiss or Team Tournament: 6.31 For an unrated player’s first performance to count, he must score at least 1/2 point. ... 7.14 A rating for a player new to the list shall be published only if it meets the following criteria: 7.14a If based on...

Re: FIDE's 400pt rule

Or a player with a dedicated digital camera. ... Didn't disturb anybody, didn't break any rules. That might have been within the rules a few years ago when only "electronic means of communication" were banned, but I don't see how it would be legal now with all "electronic devices" banned unless the...

Re: FIDE's 400pt rule

Presumably players who had finished their games :? Or a player with a dedicated digital camera. At my previous club there was one strong player (~2200) from another club who used to play in our FIDE tournaments who used to do just that and who, part way through a round, would take a few pictures fo...

Re: Running a FIDE rated RP tournament ?

5. You need to make sure everyone who plays in the tournament has a FIDE ID before the tournament starts. If they do not have a FIDE ID, but have disclosed on the entry form that they wish to appear on the FIDE rating list under England, then an ID can be created for them at the time the rating fil...

Re: Arbitration question

Black has sufficient material that, given sufficiently incompetent play by White, Black could still win. Therefore the arbiter would award the game to Black. (That assumes that White hadn't, before his flag fell, claimed a draw on the basis that his opponent could not win by normal means). No such ...

Re: FIDE's 400pt rule

Let's not forget that it's about a 1 in 2 chance that you draw against a player rated 200 points above you and also a 1 in 2 chance that you fail to beat someone 200 points below. Not sure this is quite right I think Roger has just phrased it awkwardly without, I'm sure, any intention to mislead. W...

Adam, only a problem if you publish on YouTube . Sound only podcasts are better not on YouTube, IMHO.

Re: FIDE's 400pt rule

Roger, what you've written has obvious errors on almost every line. I'm too lazy to "Fisk" what you've written. I'll just point out two things. 1) Earlier in the thread you appear to accept that playing predominantly much weaker opposition is a surefire way to increase your rating over time. 2) Ther...

Re: FIDE's 400pt rule

Having a minimum rating of 2200 for 95% of players and one of 1900 for 5% would create distortions regardless. Players just about a minimum are liable to have flattering ratings by the simple effect that only their better performances get rated. If "about" is a typo and you meant "above" then you a...

Re: Candidates 2019

By the way, I think the Cricket World Cup format is poor for the same reason; now that Australia, New Zealand, India and England already look certain to be in the Semi Finals And then England lose to Sri Lanka. Oh dear! With matches against Australia, India and New Zealand still to come it's squeak...

Re: European Senior Team Championships 2019

It would be nice if the teams could have names that were a bit more imaginative than "England 1" and "England 2". Could I suggest "The Bookkeepers" and "The Token Man" for the two 50+ teams?

Re: Grade File Checker

Steve, Windows 10 (and 8 and 8.1 for that matter) will let you run a Windows 7 program on it if you tell it to by setting the compatibility mode for the program. If you have a shortcut set up on the desktop for the program then you can get to this by right clicking on the shortcut and selecting "Pro...

Re: How do I?

I tried that before, but it didn't work. Are there any known subtleties? Make sure you both have the same version (ideally the latest) installed. Emailing the TUNx file and loading normally just works and, as Alex says, is independent of key. Another possibility is to upload to Chess-results. Then ...
