Re: Repercussions / Fallout from FIDE Elections?

It is reported that Karjakin has said Moscow It figures that if they are scheduling people to travel on December 25th, it's either somewhere that doesn't close for Christmas, or, like Russia, celebrates it on a different date. I don't understand your point. Whenever you travel to somewhere you also...

Re: 2018 World Championship in London

The only reasons these sports work are TV audiences in multi-millions & live audiences in 10s of 1,000s. Chess will never obtain those audiences so you are being over-optimistic. Live sport is never played in complete silence so I cannot see any natural excitement for a chess player in reading a se...

Re: 2018 World Championship in London

but non-chess sports have no problem in recognising such players as their World Champion. I would go further and say that "everyone has a chance" is widely viewed as a feature, not a bug. In American football they take the concept one step further and at the start of each new season they give the f...

So when does that rule apply?
Never.

Spite is never a good basis for a decision. Although "spite" is not quite the word I'm looking for. The Hebrew word "dafka" is more appropriate but an exact translation is difficult.

Re: 2018 World Championship in London

After d4, c4 and e4 from Carlsen is it time on Sunday for 1. f4? He clearly has a good chess sense of humour even if he isn't smiling in this match yet.

Grischuk: "He needs a time machine!"
Svidler: "Don't we all. What do we want - time travel! When do we want it? It's irrelevant!"
Spoilsport Svidler gives away the proof that time travel will never be invented.

That must be what happens when two Adorjan fans play each other.

Re: 2018 World Championship in London

Svidler & Grischuk, these guys are just mint. Grischuk: "All of us are a little bit autistic, so we're not in love with eye contact" Grischuk is definitely a major commentating find for Chess24. If you want more of his inimitable style complete with background sounds from his kids he is doing one h...

Games played on DGT boards don't require manual input unless the technology breaks down, for obvious reasons.

As Caruana approached the first time control I bet he regretted taking back the first move Woody Harrelson made.

Curious location
Why on earth would the Russian president of the 2018 FIFA World Cup organising committee want to arrange a meeting at one of England's and the world's premier football clubs owned by a fellow Russian?

Re: 4NCL International Congress

I think it appropriate to ask a former teacher at my school. If I had been caught cheating at chess or bridge at school would I have been expelled? I taught maths at your school when you were there and I was the master in charge of chess. No, you would not have been expelled for cheating at chess. ...

Re: 2018 Women's World Championship

If you have a (free) login on the FIDE ratings website then one possible route for investigation is to look at the "Individual Calculations" for a period before they got married and it should tell you. FIDE doesn't change old data. So, for example - https://ratings.fide.com/individual_calculations....

Biggest upset perhaps was Ekaterina Atalik beating Mariya Muzychuk with Black. I forget what her surname was before she married Suat Atalik; does anyone know?
